I wouldn't call myself a fan, but some of the tracks on 'From Here We Go Sublime' are amazing.
Drunken Mastah: A lot of people disagree with you. 'From Here...' was the most universally acclaimed album of 2007. lazy_metacritic I think you're being a bit bombastic when you say "it's not quality". Sure, you can hate this music all you want, but calling it without quality is truly "too easy".

I'm a fan. Really trippy repetition. I hear all sorts of imaginary music when I listen, that's hinted at but not actually there. It's like musical daydreaming. The songs seem to hover at the crescendo indefinitely.

I got "From Here We Go Sublime" and I must say that this is music, that you can get high from listening to. My favorite tracks are "Over The Ice", "Good Things End" and "The Deal". The repetition is trippy and I love it.

Hahahah, if that's for real, I should release all the stuff I made when I was 14, and then I could make lots of money! If it's "quality" to be able to slap stuff together in MadTracker and then copy/paste the same pattern for six minutes, only adding one element each four repetitions, then, sure, it's quality, but then almost every single 14-year old who manages to do the same becomes quality, effectively making the phrase meaningless, don't you think?

I sure would like to see you release the music you made when you were 14, and make lots of money. Untill you do, maybe a less arrogant stance would suit you better?
I guess you don't like minimal and repetetive techno, then, and that's alright. This music is not for everyone, and I respect your opinion to hate it. I see no point in discussing this any further, as it is unlikely we will agree with each other :)

This album being released is equivalent to that, except for another guy making the money. I have never had any aspirations towards releasing my music, and I also believe doing it "for a living" would kind of ruin it for me (I may go as far as making music for movies, as that won't really be as much "my music," as it will be "the movie's" music (the movie dictates what I make for it)), but if that stuff up there can make it, so could 14-year-old me.
Also, I never said anything to indicate I hate it, did I? I don't hate it, but I dislike it. I'm also saying that it isn't quality. Being fortunate enough to hit whatever market this hit at the right point in time doesn't grant you some kind of seal of quality, nor does the usual throng of "hip hypers" giving it the thumbs up.
Bottom line is, regardless of how it was actually made, this music is equivalent to that of a 14-year old boy with a knack for copy/paste. This doesn't mean you can't like it, or that I hate it, but it means that it isn't quality.

Even if I don't like bananas, I can recognise one that is of good quality, and it is possible to set down a set of criteria for determining what is a good quality and what is a bad quality banana. A good quality banana would probably not be brown, undernourished or full of worms, for instance.

That's not only a subjective criterion but an idiosyncratic one. You're doing exactly what Nietzsche accuses philosophers of doing - garbing gut level prejudice in the raiment of universality.
Isn't it more honest to say "this music makes me shit" than to pretend that it falls short of some ideal set of criteria which you can't even articulate?
Music criticism should be recognized as a form of poetry.

this album was very well received by the general critic. so any argument like drunken's is void of substance.
myself, i really don't see what all the fuss is about, I find the pieces too similar and even somewhat predictable and formulaic, they do sound nice, but sounding nice is not enough to gain my admiration. I recognize the process by which the music was made and I respect that, but i don't see that it's big a deal.
I just can't enjoy it THAT much either from an intellectual or aestethic point of view. it doesn't suck tho.
