Did you get your "digital" synth out of the Forrest Mimms
scrapbook? I remember seeing something in there about a 1:10
counter driving a load of pots. It was probably the only
half interesting thing in that book.

No actually, GCSE electronics course mean we learn loads
about Decade Counters and it got me thinking about their use
in synthesizers, the only main thing I've seen them used in
is sequencers (Baby 10). Also thinking of used NPN astables
(weird swing time shit) and PICs (timing and digital stuff
in general with these are brilliant, I need to program out
my "indecisive" gate thing).

I might check out some of Forrest Mimm's stuff but there's
probably more interesting stuff out there as you said.

Forrest Mims books are crap. They're not filled with
interesting clever little circuits or whatver the amazon
says about them. If you can read a datasheet and make a
non-inverting opamp circuit, you're as clever as he is.

My GCSE seemed all about 555 timers and decade counters.
Total waste of time. Just learn about opamps. No one uses
555s and 4017's or whatever. opamps are your friend.

Yeah guys and don't forget the flux capacitor!

Oh yeah definitely, the GCSE course is total shit, any of
the really useful things (RC networks, op-amps) we'll cover,
but just enough to actually know what they are. We'd never
be able to use them. There's only about 4 people out of
around 20 in the one electronics set (hopefully myself
included) that actually know what they're doing. It's pretty
scary.

I think I'm the only one this year using totally analogue
(or is it? :P) circuitry, everyone else is using bloody PIC
chips.

Cool video.

Synth DIY and all that is something I may get into one day,
who knows.

Check out Dave Wright's site for some cool DIY stuff.

Dave Wright is a legend, some of his stories are bloody
hilarious. I must buy that Laquarto + Perky album some day,
it sounds really good from the previews.
