There are tons of ambient out there, but a lot of it is
mediocre at best. So why not share your favorites?

Susumu Yokota - Sakura
Brian Eno - Music For Airports
Windy & Carl - Depths
SAWII
Stars Of The Lid - Tired Sounds...

None of those listed so far. Do you mean 'mood music' or
'Wallpaper music"?

Either way it's a shit concept unless you only want to
feel/not feel the music superficially.

It's really difficult to sum up the energy to bloody write
about any of the ones I like at all so I am not going to
give a anywhere near a full list.

SAW 2 (Obvious, but it is amazing)
Susumu Yokota - The boy and the tree and magic thread.
Milieu - Brother
KLF - Chill out
Dopplereffeckt - Linear accelerator

There are loads more I just can't remember any. It seems to
be a favourite style of mine. There is something about it
when it's done well. It just haunts me to the very centre of
my being.

I am going to stop before I make more of an idiot of myself.

'Amibent' is a pretty vague description/genre, I agree. But
when I think about ambient, I think of how Brian Eno defined
it: "[It can be] actively listened to with attention or as
easily ignored, depending on the choice of the listener."

''Freescha - Kids Fill the Floor''

Oh yes. Too many beats for me to think of that album for
this topic but whatever, they are magic.

I'm starting to get into Steve Roach, but his discog is the
most frightening thing I've ever seen. 60+ studio albums,
and I have no idea what to start with. It seems like he's
done quite a few tribal/world music/new age-ish albums. I'm
not a big fan of this sound, so if I want beatless ambient
stuff, which albums of him should I get?

he has a few that sound more futuristic and spacey, rather
than tribal.. although the tribal stuff isnt as bad as it
may sound, he has a very deep and full sound all through.

his newest album arc of passion is more futuristic,

other than that on his website steveroach.com he has
actually categorized into genres LAZY_TITLE

sio just get the atmospheric space ones and pure
electronic..

There are a few nice tracks (the beatless ones mainly), but
most of it is boring idm nonsense, which goes nowhere in my
opinion. I got sick of buying the records after they got
obsessed with limited runs in every colour in the spectrum
too.

really fell in love with, especially after listening to it

straight after an amazing underworld gig...aceness

Thomas Koner- Tiemo/Permafrost
Lustmord- Heresy
Steve Roach- Midnight Moon
Brian Eno- Ambient 4
Alva Noto- Xerrox (not as much a "pure" ambient cd as the
rest of these- kind of ambient + noise)
Biosphere- Substrata

SAW2 is way overrated.
