Anybody else had any unlucky strings of bad technology recently? I'm just really fucked off with getting brand new pieces of software or hardware that behave like ungrateful shits at the money I threw at their creators.
My new Macbook for example - I don't anything particularly demanding on the thing. Photo Booth has crashed at least a quarter of the times I've used it, as has imovie. Even fucking safari crashed a couple of times.
And then there's ableton 7 and sonar 7 (maybe it's a 7 thing), both of which are great when they work but are still act like dickheads a lot of the time.

a computer never lies they say....no but, it can give you false information..and display on your monitor total bollocks.
iits a constant battle to keep the systm running the more stuff you hAVE
a good thing to do is patition your hard drive and dual boot xp or whatever and test stuff out on that operating systerm see if you still hae the same prob both sides if you do its likely hardware prob or the software is screwy or whatever

some programs may work better in xp than osx and vice versa, but dual booting will in no way lead to you to figuring whether the problem is hardware or software.
with all that crashing, especially of cocoa apps, first of all make sure youve got all the latest updates for your programs... and i dunno what else to say. that really shouldnt be happening on a mac.

multiple dead computers, hoover motor burned out after about a fortnight, boiler that does hot water pretty much randomly, new toaster about every 6 months, phone cuts out all the time, fuses melting constantly, the other week every lightbulb in the flat just exploded, glass everywhere. don't talk to me about technology, something is properly wrong here. been happening more and more the last couple of years, fucking weird and i don't like it

I thought switching to Mac would be an improvement, in spite of my cousin's warnings about their own Macbook crashing at random fairly often. Unfortunately, I've been pretty unimpressed with the machine so far. I was browsing a forum a few minutes ago, and got an endless beach ball for no reason. Had to restart. It happened yesterday a couple of times on various websites, too.
belb, that sounds horrendous. Maybe your stuff needs an exorcism.

I've had problems with Hewlett Packard PCs before... first one I bought (1999) was fine operationally, but the case was so tiny it made upgrading the PC nearly impossible. The next one MAY have powersurged but it also may have just died. Because I wasn't sure if the culprit was the computer's power supply or a power surge, I gave HP one more go. Now the current one sometimes doesn't boot past the opening blue "HP" screen, and I have to power it off and back on. Definitely not purchasing from them again, but hopefully this computer will last me a while because I don't have the money right now for another computer.

If you can, always try to get professional grade equipment. Modern "consumer" stuff is crap. Most of it won't last very long and can't be serviced easily or at all.
Of course this is more expensive, but if it lasts you a lifetime it's a bargain.
If you want something stable. you need to step back from the "cutting edge". Get something a couple of years old, which has matured.
Oh and apple are just a fruit themed toy maker now.

there actually was some sense in that article.
i never had a problem with any Apple computer....
until they started with all this iPod bullshit.
they are blatantly letting their computer business slip, a perfet example of which being: Leopard was supposed to be released February/March last year. but was postponed until October, due to needing the staff on the iPhone launch.
anyways. Apple unfortunately sold their soul a long time ago.
they don't innovate. they just buy out other companies and other technologies and smack a white Apple logo on it and brandish it as their own.
don't believe me?
look into the origins of OS X, the origins of the iPod, the origins of the touch-screen interface on the iPhone, etc etc etc

look into the origins of OS X, you mean nextstep? yeah that was steve's child before he got back at apple...
the origins of the iPod, no please tell me
the origins of the touch-screen interface on the iPhone,
touchscreen technologies were bought by apple, yes. that doesn't make the product any less innovative. the user-interface was way ahead of anything else on the market. that didn't fall out of the sky.
etc etc etc i'm still interested. please continue with the etc. (in general, people falling back to "etc" haven't got any examples left...although they feel they do.)
btw, what would be an innovative product?
