I kinda liked it....saw it a couple of days ago...

But yeah, speilberg kinda ruined it...it could have been a
lot darker & thought provoking and altho there were some
elements of that to it, it tried too hard to be a "film for
all the family" & some of the more interesting points of the
story were just glossed over with smaltz (sp?)....

Worth watching but not a great movie...

I liked Ministry's little bit in it. Could there have been
a more fitting band there? I don't think so.

Aside from that, someone should have been there to yell
NOOOOOOO!!! when Speilberg suggested making a Kubrick film.

i was extremely disappointed when i saw this in the cinema -
apart from some nice special effects and jude law, it was
crap - i would have loved to have had kubrick live long
enough to direct it in the stead of spielberg

I almost bought the double DVD yesterday and put it back on
the shelf - I decided I wait till it was shown on Sky, and
then I'd decide....

Interesting.....

It is not a sci-fi movie. It is a romantic crap.

The ending sucks, a lot of it was very good though.

Overall I would have to say its a good movie, because some
parts of it made me feel like I was on lots of acid, you
know that bugged out movie feeling you get so seldomly (or
often from Kubrick) where you leave the theatre like feeling
like fucked up... The first have of the movie posed a lot of
interesting questions to me.

There were several plot holes though, one of which was that
it was left somewhat unexplained that there was this FLESH
FAIR post-apocalyptic future where crime is rampant and
everything is dirty and on fire that many movies portray the
not too distant future as. And then like several miles away
there was this quaint little suburbia where soccer moms are
having birthday partie barbecues with all the neighborhood
kids. I didn't really quite get that.

i liked it, not the best speilberg movie though... cant wait
till Minority Report is out!! Its based on a Philip K Dick
strory and the premise is really good.

anyway i think AI will be regarded better in the future as
was with 2001

AI looks like a stinking turd next to 2001: a space
odyssey...

that lady was a real bitch for abandoning that robot kid
(dont recall his name) after she did that love thing to him

that's prolly what bothered me most about it

industrial visions of the future always seem dated as soon
as they are released.
i used to want cinematic translations of philip k dick's
work, but i don't think they work well - unless you got
someone like the Coen brothers to make it with a smallish
budget and minimal special effects thus being able to focus
on the actual philosophy... after all, the science aspect of
philip k dick was almost secondary to the story - he was a
modern philosopher rather than a charter of possible
tomorrows.

I kind of liked it.
It looked good , didn't care much for the story though.
Didn't cunningham design most of the robots?

I thought AI was excellent. Aside from the beautiful
imagery and music, it's a great story. Everyone thinks it's
too sappy at the end. Well, it's supposed to be; it's a
fairy tale. And it's not really a very happy ending when
you think about it.
got the dvd the day it came out.

i dont think cunningham developed the robots, but it would
be nice if there was a full length indy film by cunningham
imo

He sad he spent two years in cubricks house building robots
for the movie?

the story is great? there is nothing original to the story -
they merely took an old stock storyline and made the boy an
AI-machine, that's all. even then, in a science fiction
context, that is nothing special or original - maybe to some
young restless hick it was mindblowing. i found monsters,
inc to be more emotional and involving - with a great
premise and a great storyline

Monsters inc. is good too. Anything by Pixar is excellent.
I appreciated AI for what it was. Yes, the story contained
elements that have been covered before, but AI isn't the
only movie that does that.

Are you calling xlr a young restless hick? : )

I didn't like the story much iether.
But the imagery was nice me thinks.

the humans make a bunch of robots to replace themselves
because of their own foolish mistakes. they should have made
an effort to fix the environment; well, that would have been
more realistic anyway (or no?)

offline marlowe from Antarctica on 2002-03-24 18:35 [#00139482]

as i stated, the special effects in it are great - but i was
frustrated, because they were used in a film that was junk -
a bit of kubrick estrangement would have made this
film...but spielberg just has to pander to mr and mrs joe
america (have you read easy riders raging bulls? - great
book)
