that's pretty cool... wouldn't be anything spectacular if it was a human playing that... but yeah you get what I'm saying. It's cool.

The possibilities are amazing. They thought drum machines would replace drummers. I think this does it. If they had financial backing to really explore this more it could be immense.

Playing with space and using different mics and eq there are endless sounds you can get out of a drum set. New sounds.

drum machines replace drummers? not any more than synthesizers replaced piano players... The human element will always be there in music, and if it's not, I don't think I want anything to do with it.

...though I admit it would be sweet to see a band play that had that thing for the drummer, playing more complex beats. I just wouldn't want that contraption to be the only thing bands use. :]

I hear you, but I think something like this could go beyond human. It is midi, and it is the drummer in the band on that site. They tour with it! I think it could be perfected, though. Like adding different mallets or mechanisms that can play patterns into audio rates. Maybe even abandon the notion of using sticks and use a more practical smaller strike tool that can be placed in a grid around the drum.
For guitarists, this is a great guitar to midi converter....

that guitar midi thing is awesome.. but you'll need a midi-rigged guitar which, in my experience, there's not much to choose from in that respect, at least in terms of pre-made ones from reputable manufactures. I'm sure you could jimmy-rig just about any guitar to use midi, but that would be way out of my league. Also, how do you set up a guitar to trigger different midi drum samples? Is it sophisticated enough to map a different sample to ever single fret, or can you have like one sample per string?

you can have a different sample on each fret. Its up to your sampler. You are just sending midi messages. The midi box listens to your string pluck to trigger the midi box. It works perfectly and has gotten amazing reviews all around. Its unlike any converter to date.

Oh I see, it's a separate box that converts incoming audio signals to midi? that's really interesting.. I just thought it was better software for the tradtional midi-rigged guitars.

yeah, its handy for me because I enjoy playing guitar but don't always enjoy hearing one. So it would be nice to play synths and stuff with a guitar. Its easy to just noodle around on a guitar for hours. I can't do that with a keyboard. I get too board.
