He wrote masterpieces like "The Man In The High Castle",
"VALIS"
and "The Simulacra"

Anyone else here a fan?

I'm reading Second Variety And Other Classic Stories... I
read "The Golden Man" which the new movie Next is based on
-- the movie totally fucked that story up.

Really great stuff. Mind-blowing!

I've read Do Androids Dream and Flow My Tears, The Policeman
Said. Both brilliant books, want to read more!

Yes - I read most of his books in my late teens and early
twenties, then had to stop. Since then, I've mainly dipped.

He has been my favorite author for so many years. I've read
tons of his stuff and agree on most of the big mentions
here, for instance

UBIK

which is the best thing ever. For a lighter book, I
recommend

The game-players of titan,

which is tons of fun. But if you want something SEVERELY
fucked like ubik, try

THE THREE STIGMATA OF PALMER ELDRITCH

(holy fuck it is good).

I liked the scanner darkly movie when I saw it, but I hate
blade runner. pkd stories are all about the psychological
bit, what's going on in everyone's head! He does a
wonderful job transferring the confusion of the lead
character to your own head, wow I get disoriented in some of
those stories. and he does it in such a way that you
sometimes CAN'T answer all the questions in the end, it
leaves room for you to speculate and speculate.

this used to bother me but now I think that is great. I
mean, yeah, in real life you are never certain about
anything. And that's part of his deepest point, real life
is FUCKED.

fuckin' rules.

I'll also note that I have not enjoyed the short stories of
his which I've read. This is in contrast to ROGER ZELAZNY,
whose short stories I like, but long novels I dislike.
ACtually I like anything of his up to around 80 pages.
more, no thank you.

I'm exactly the same--I bought two big compilations of PKD
short stories, and left most of them unread since I just
couldn't get into them at all.

i've read half a dozen of his books, most of which were
amazingly fun, including man in the high castle and valis
(together with its two 'sequels')... he wrote so much it's
no wonder many of his lesser books are truly that: lesser,
and less interesting. But it's equally surprising how many
psychologically rich and metaphysically interesting he
managed to write during his paranoid-addict years.
