unfortunately the likelihood of him getting elected is
infinitely small.

do you really think the current government is going to let
this happen?

I think he wants to build a fence along the border with
Mexico, and round up and ship all illegal immigrants
currently in the US back over the border.

So, its a good thing he's wanting to cut every other
government project completely out of the budget because
those two proposals alone will consume every penny that
everything else took.

He also wants religion to play a larger role in
government.

where do you get your facts?

ron paul on immigration:

Q: Is it even practical to try to send 12 million illegal
immigrants all home?

PAUL: I would not sign a bill like [comprehensive
immigration reform], because it would be amnesty. I also
think that it's pretty impractical to get an army in this
country to round up 12 or maybe 20 million. But I do believe
that we have to stick to our guns on obeying the law, and
anybody who comes in here illegally shouldn't be rewarded.
And that would be the case.

Q: You voted to support that 700-mile fence along the border
with Mexico. Is there a need for a similar fence along the
border with Canada?

PAUL: No. The fence was my weakest reason for voting for
that, but enforcing the law was important, and border
security is important. And we've talked about amnesty, which
I'm positively opposed to. If you subsidize something, you
get more of it. We subsidize illegal immigration, we reward
it by easy citizenship, either birthright or amnesty.

more facts. do your research, there's a lot of bad/lazy
reporting and misinfo out there.

offline epohs from )C: on 2007-12-16 09:30 [#02154925]
Points: 17620 Status: Lurker

Okay, so he didn't like the idea of a fence but he voted for
it.

He may think enforcing the law is paramount, but I don't
think I agree with him when the particular law he is talking
about is broken and enforcing it is a fiscal impossibility.

I'm really not 100% convinced. I think if Hillary wins the
democratic nomination there will be a real ugly shitstorm.
There's just so much hatred for anything Clinton in the
Republican party.

If it gets ugly enough and she can't come off as a likable
human (which I have my doubts that she can), then I think
there's a chance she could lose, no matter who the
republicans nominate.

Right now I think a candidate's likability as a person and
their overall vision toward the world in general is more
important than any specific policy stance.

Bush's administration has done more to hurt our standing as
a nation by just being a bunch of unilateral assholes than
any policy change can fix.

I don't really care what Hillary's last name is, I just
don't like her.

I think it's going to be a Hillary and Obama ticket against
Huckabee.

Huckebee wants to get rid of the IRS. So he couldn't be that
crazy.

Not that I'm disagreeing, but what lessons did America learn
from voting for Gore?

If anything I would say American's learned that voting in
general doesn't get them anywhere, not that voting for a
more likable guy doesn't get them anywhere.

Also, I'm not saying that likability should be the only
trait to look for, but the US is so polarized right now that
we're paralyzed internally, and we have a fucking terrible
image in the world. That hurts us any time we try to do
anything.

i get a sense from the democrats that they're willing to do
just about anything to win the next elections. even more so
than the republicans. they're even willing to play the game
like republicans. a nice example were the events in bali
where next to the delegation of bush's administration there
was a second delegation of democrats. this second delegation
basically saying not to worry too much about the first
delegation because in 2009 things will change for the
better. the next - what would be - democratic administration
is already busy laying the foundations for new and improved
international relationships.
it appears that the current administration is left virtually
powerless and seeing the current events around certain
destroyed cia tapes its days are numbered as well.

Paul seems like a decent honest guy, which as I've said
before is my main criteria for a candidate. I also like Gore
and Nader for the same reason.

Issue-wise fundamentally I'm a libertarian (+social
liberties, -excess government) so he's right up my alley.

I don't necessarily agree with his stances on abortion or
immigration but eh, there's always something I don't like
about every candidate.

Yes, well, Huckabee has the balls to retire of a huge
bloated system like the IRS. Which would be an amazing
thing. I'm sick of the status quo in government. The "keep
pilling on" mentality, thus being left with a bloated
system. The IRS is nothing but a fucking mob boss. Every
product you buy is taxed from here to sunday. Its not just
taxed at the point of sale. Then we get taxed for having the
money to buy the products. Its never ending. It's a way to
keep tabs on and enslave people. Ron Paul ought to take
note. Dismantling the IRS would mean true independence.

Ron Paul was the first one to put forth that idea, now
Huckabee is saying he would do the same just to win votes..
