recently i have begun utilizing firefox extensions more and more and am finding some to be extremely useful in streamlining my workflow (horray for buzzwords!) so i figured id let people know what i use and see if they have any useful tips of their own.
(all of these can be found at the mozilla main site by searching so im not gonna bother posting links.)
stumbleupon - i know i said most of these help with productiveness but this does the exact opposite. i really shouldnt even have to say anything about this, everyone should already have it.
tab mix plus - allows you to change all sorts of formatting with tabs. my most used features are the multirowed tabbing (no more side scroll buttons!), changing the text of a newly loaded tab, and the 'reaload every x minutes' feature.
ad block plus - 'nuff said. blocks any ads (or anything else) you (don't) want.
all-in-one sidebar - lets me view my download window, program preferences, history and even page source in a souped-up sidebar which i can even make auto-hide.
split browser - lets you break up the firefox windows into as many panes as you want. i use this most often for watching streaming video when i want to continue surfing other sites.

Sounds pretty neat.. This might be one good reason to switch from IE to Firefox, for me. Not that there aren't valid reasons for most people to switch to Firefox already, but IE works really well (and fast) for me, so I've been reticent to switch, if for no other reason than laziness/complacency.

Yeah, I remember as an XP user, IE was actually kind of a pop-up whore... but with the combination of the Vista version of IE + windows defender + norton 360, pop-ups are virtually a thing of the past. (I've had no more than 3 popups since I purchased this computer about 4 months ago.)

"altho it still stands that leopard kicks the shit out of vista any day of the week"
100% true. I'm not a vista fan-boy in the least, but I still like it. It just can't come anywhere close to the level of reliability and ease of use that leopard boasts.

since i upgraded about a month ago i've only had two slight problems.
1: azureus was crashing, so i appzapped it, reinstalled and had no problems.
2: there are some minor (read: unobstrusive) visual glitches for the vlc player gui.
things like spaces and expose are why i love apple. brilliantly designed and implemented features which at first one would think are inconsequential but once you get used to them you can't go without them. i can hardly function in a windows environment anymore.

all-in-one gestures. mouse gestures.
gtranslate. for translating foreign languages.
fireftp. so I don't have to get an external ftp program.
dictionary switcher. to avoid red lines when I'm writing in other languages.
dictionary tooltip. double-click word definition.
dictionary search. originally for dictionaries, but it's basically a quick way of searching for any word or phrase anywhere.. right-click and select where you want to search (you define your own "dictionaries."
html validator. know right away if your page validates.

Ok so I've switched over to Firefox, and I must say that it is, in fact, the shit.
as far as extensions go, the only one I'm using is Stumbleupon, which is really cool once you take the time to go through all the interests and select the ones you want. I never seem to 'stumble' upon a bad website!

if you're wondering how people magically find the direct links to mp3s that are hidden in flash files etc, the extension you need is Live HTTP Headers.
It opens a window that shows the url to everything your browser is downloading.

I use the Opera browser... currently v9.
It rocketh more than FF.
Best things about it... -> Built in mouse gestures that work better than the FF ones. Built in ftp and download manager Built in email client Can reload closed tabs / duplicate current (history and all)
MUCH quicker than FF MUCH lower memory footprint than FF Loads more!!!
MUCH nicer user interface than FF (in my opinion)www.opera.com

i use opera on systems where im not doing my usual, day-to-day browsing (read: my bootcamp install of windows), but ive gotten so disgustingly dependent on my extensions (tab mix plus and all-in-one sidebar in particular) that i feel handicapped in "vanilla" browsers.
also, im gonna take back my vote for fasterfox - i feel like it was causing problems and ff seems to run much smoother with it disabled.
