ive noticed this annoying trend in indie rock myslef...it seems like every new indie rock band i see on mtv2 is another buzzcocks clone...or sappy emo band...then of course theres the less-indie nu metal bands...i wont even start with them...

i didn't say they were all emo, i just lumped their respective genres together because all the bands suck! some indie rock is good. i don't like emo at all, and "garage", whether they mean "garage rock" or UK 2-step, has yet to impress me.

Sloan is the best rock/pop group in the world right now, much better than any of those bands listed up there. If there was any justice, they'd be famous as hell all over the world... nay, the UNIVERSE!

Emo means Emotional Rock.
Its just playing music, It has its own style, to happy songs and then songs that you just jam too. Like Jimmy EAt World's Bleed American is the best emo album, if you want to know about emo then thats it.
Emo is just a different style of music. Its not hard rock but then not alternative crap...it is what it was EMO

Japanese. Drums. Bass. Loud. Crazy (especially live).
They've been categorized under experimental, and I'd agree with that. It's almost like having the dirt & grit of punk, but with the technicality of prog. rock, because they do some really weird stuff.
The bass player has a mountain of effects pedals and he plays a six string bass.
The drummer is cool because he plays with such a small kit, but makes it sound so big.
They both 'sing' in what is apparently their own language that they made up. It's sounds operetic at times, which is funny, but cool.
I can't really describe them well, it's so hard to. For me at least. If you're really curious and have some time, try and find some of their tracks to get a better idea. I'd recommend 'Praha In Spring' and 'Bug'.
