So has anyone heard this "new" nirvana-song yet?
(apparantly the last song they recorded as a band). I for
one am very excited about it :-D

If anyone's heard it: is it any good? what does it sound
like?

I just read an interview with dave grohl who said: "i'd
sooner call it 'interesting' than 'good'"

I think it's scheduled to be released as a single for the
end of this month already. And after that there will be a
greatest hits-album with "you know you're right" as a
bonus-track. (i'll just buy the single... no way i'm going
to spend 20 euros on a bunch of songs i already have).

But later on there might also be a cd with rarities!
(outtakes from the in utero-sessions and such).. I'm very
excited about that one too!

Yep. I will buy the cd (hopefully cd-box) with rarities, but
not best of. Have all the cd's so I hope the song will be on
a single. Wonder if there will be any b-sides? Maybe some
live-stuff?

I'm a hardcore Nirvana-fan, and I think the song is really
good!

Think the best of is in nov/dec, and the rarities is next
year, yes. I guess the delay is because of that stupid
Courtney Love cunt!

didn't the rest of the band and courtney love finally settle
things?

have been settled years ago. I think.

She's cool. She's gone on the record saying she doesn't care
if people copy her Cds as her record Company charges too
much...

Re: The Nirvana thing. I don't think she should have any
say, merely a share of the profits...

i thought it was already for sure the song would also be
avaiable as a single?

Damn i hope so! I'd be really frustrated if i had to buy the
entire best of-cd just for one song.

i agree (only with the 2nd part of your post though! ;-))

I think it's absurd that the 2 remaining bandmembers aren't
the only owners of the unreleased material.

anyway it's good to hear you like the song! That makes me
optimistic :-)

I hope somewhere on one of the new relaeses they will be
able to fit "i hate myself and i want to die". That one was
released on a beavis and butthead compilation-cd i've never
been able to find in any shop :-(

I've heard that song on a tape though, and it fucking rocks.

i don't know actually :-s

But let's say he did. Than ofcourse she has the right to
receive the royalties of all the nirvana-albums that were
still being sold after his death.

But now we are talking about unreleased songs that the 3
nirvana-members recorded by themselves! Courtney had nothing
to do with that.

I guess if Kurt had put her in his well, she is probably
*legally* the owner of that material... but if that's the
case, it's an absurd law imo.

nice site!

I'm mostly interested in the songs that might have been
recorded in the last years of Kurt's life. I actually
already have quite alot of bootlegs with very early unknow
nirvana-material... and i don't really like most of them. I
think Kurt became a much better songwriter later on :-)

This sounds good though:

"There is a certain amount of Nirvana material that has not
been released. "I have a buttload of material," Love says.
"I have the holy grail of rock & roll. That's the story."
There are 109 tapes. "But not all of it's great. Some of
it's fragments." She thinks there are between five and eight
"solidly good," unheard acoustic songs. "There's some stuff
that's not very melodic that I'm not fond of, but, hey, if
you're a fan of [Radiohead's] Kid A, it might be really
great."

Hehe... typically Love to casually dis radiohead like that.
But i don't mind, it just makes me laugh :-p

But anyway, i'd love to hear those 5-8 new acoustic songs!
And i think she's being very selfish by wanting to keep it
for herself.

I just don't understand where she's coming from. Obviously
Dave and Krist would like to release as much as possible, so
Courtney... doesn't? But why not? What is it that they are
actually fighting about?

I accually really like this song! I never stopped liking
Nirvana I loved them when I was in the 5th grade!

After that, I just started listening to other music more
often... man, I miss Kurt's voice! :D

I think Dave and Krist hate her. With reason. I would
seriously buy anything (I don't have before) of Nirvana.
Give me a quadruple cd-box or something. Maybe Nirvana will
be the new Beatles with secret tapes popping up every now
and then?

hm... i'm not sure about the cd-box. I'm very afraid the box
will mostly contain all the regular-albums, each with a
couple of outtakes or something. I seriously doubt the
announced box will contain nothing but unheard songs. All
the 'new' material will probably fit just as well on one cd,
and the box will just be a way to make more money :-/

(from what i read in OOR magazine, first there will be the
best-of albums, than a cd full of rarities, and after that a
boxset)

You can put copyrights in wills, jsut like you can sell
them... Elvis' family still makes shitloads from copyright
royalties of his material...

courtney love is a murdering bitch

any hardcore nirvana fan would have had the 'rariites' years
ago. we're hardly short of nirvana bootlegs (well over 100)

the 'new' song i quite like, but yet again its a scam to
make you but a 'greatest hits' (duh) by putting one extra
unheard track on it.

why would you want to by the box set when i guess you have
all the albums / singles already? up to you, i guess

I saw the video yesterday and enjoyed it immensly. The
track itself is very good imo, I'm glad it finally made it
out. As a collector, I'll buy the greatest hits even though
I own most of Nirvana's albums, just because I feel it
deserves a spot in my collection.

yeah but all of the bootlegs i have are kinda crappy... both
in soundquality and artwork.

It's usually audience-recordings with lots of talking
through them, or (even worse) studio-recordings with
audience-noises mixed over them :-o

If there were a nice compilation of all those rarities
(verse chorus verse, sappy, i hate myself and i want to die,
a studio-recording of spank thru (!)... that would make me
very happy :-)
Hopefully the rarities-cd will be just that. There are some
amazing unreleased songs out there, that's for sure.

But for right now... i just wanna hear You Know You're
Right... :-p

ok, heres the deal, cuz there seems to be alot of
speculation.... a best of cd just called "nirvana" comes out
sometime this month. the video is already on mtv and m2.
next year we get a rarities cd which everyone should be
jazzed about. then the year after we get the mythic
"boxed-set" which dave grohl promises is alot of material
that no one has EVER heard before. all this info is
available at www.nirvanaclub.com

the rareities boxset was already released a few years ago,
then it was unreleased because of courtney.
i'll be looking forward to buying it tho.

also, cobains diaries (from the age of a child to the age of
his death) is going to be published along with poems,
artwork, and un-recorded song lyrics or something like
that.

exciting times for a nirvana fan

too true.

i think they're releasing the diaries to influence kids to
stay away from drugs.

but rather than doing that, they should just use the
biography that was written

i know

i feel the same way and i think it is a terrible thing that
they are publishing his diaries...

but...

well, i don't know if i'll be strong enough to resist the
temptation of reading them :-o I mean when they're just out
there... for sale in every bookstore (even in a dutch
translation)... i know i'll be curious and will want to read
it.

Someone pointed out to me that some pages are already
online, and i couldn't stop reading. It's like you keep
wanting to understand Kurt more... get closer to the
mystery.

I'll probably read the diaries and feel guilty for the rest
of my life :-/

well hurray! I finally saw the video today!
And i liked it, i really really liked it. It's not one of
Nirvana's best songs (well, as far as i can tell from
hearing it only once with my mom talking through it :-/)...
but it was just so great to actually see a nirvana-video i
hadn't seen before.

Also, i was surprised at how hard it rocked! I dunno why,
but i always thought it'd be a soft acoustic song... I like
this even better though. It rocks like only nirvana could
rock, and when he screams... wow... he really SCREAMS! Can't
wait to see it again, and to buy the single when it's out.

I can't believe it's really been 8 years since kurt died...
where did all that time go eh? By now there's a whole new
generation of kids who never even heard of nirvana.

There was one of those horrible txt-bars at the bottom of
the screen where people can send sms-messages... and during
the video it was full of things like: "this song sux, pls
play some sum41, the rok!!!!!!"

What the hell... who would ever prefer a sum41-video over
nirvana? :-p

nice video also. I really like how (so far, i hope they keep
it up!) Krist and Dave and whoever else is responsible for
the nirvana-legacy never make it sentimental and "in memory
of kurt cobain"-like. It just shows nirvana as they were...
having fun, on the stage... yeah... i liked it!

Much better than all the tupac-videos released after his
death (not that i like tupac at all... but those videos make
me sick). Always ending with "in loving memory of..."...
showing fragments of interview during the song. They are
really milking his death i think. Luckily they haven't done
that with kurt so far :-)
