I have a new track I did all by myself, so tell me if you
like it. I've been jamming out to it recently and I think
some of you will enjoy it - and if you're like me you like
enjoying music too. And if you dont like it, at least you
heard something new and different. And if you tell me why
you didn't like it, I promise my next track will be better
:D

attackingwithmechanicallimbs

also if you enjoy this track, check out Attaching Mechanical
Limbs, which got me a few thumbs up from some people.

peace

Hi, I listen to music.

Sorry, I can't download you're tracks, I'm on a government
computer and that sort of behaviour is not allowed. Sigh.

But I'm sure they are good! Keep up the (probably) good
work!

BSAT3 - this is sweet. Very organic and open sounding. Nice
beats, cool ending.

oh thanks. yeah its organic coz i used a lot of natural
noises like hitting off a metal table and stuff. I find that
approach more rewardin than using normal drumsounds
sometimes moooooo

I like doing sounds like that to make beats, but I dont do
it enough. Did you actually sample metal hitting the table?

yeah. i just use a shitty wee mic and like get a fork and
hit it of a metal table. then i edit the sounds and make a
whole kit using various noises and then put the noises into
a drum sampler and arrange em and stuff. its a cool method
to come up with weird sounds. and its cheap!

The white noise is neat, sounds like it fades away after it
comes in like little white misty raindrops.

I don't like the volume level on the sounds that come in
quick, maybe a melody, before the bells.

When the whining sound came in I immediately thought my cat
was having a seizure until I realized it was the music. This
makes me happy. Maybe I shouldn't listen to music this
loud.

Not enough volume changes for me, keeps it really ambient
sounding, but for some reason it doesn't seem like what you
were going for. Maybe try raising the levels on the drums to
give it a little more energy so there's more contrast
between that and the ambient parts. Maybe not volume, but
something? I hate using words like this, but it sounds
"dry"

Partially, after listening to it again, because the initial
drum beat and white noise effects are much more energetic
than the rest of the piece. It seems to climax very early
and the rest is a gradual downward spiral into ambient land.

I might give it a listen later and try to make suggestions
if you're planning on working it through again.

I've got a DrillnBass track up on another thread if you feel
like checking it out, I'm recompressing the "right" way and
then uploading... so like 30 minutes or so and I'll update
the thread

Listened to it again... there's a lot going on, it's
complex, it's very subtle, it's just confusing from an
energy point of view. I like it quite a bit.

thank you sir, a very helpfull review :)

The problem with the production quality is mainly
fruityloops fault - I have a few sounds that I wanted louder
(then I could turn up some other volumes to match it) but
floops would only make it go so loud. Thus it sounds a bit
'flat' because the mixing is shit.

yeah I want to hear your drillnbass track!

It's very cool weathered, i like the production in how you
use dynamics ie. thin/fat, wide/narrow.

My mate Phil likes it too although I agree with him that
it's perhaps a little Aphexy.

On that subject, although not related specifically at
weathered's track
, I'd say the last thing people should
do right now is sound like Mr James.

offline Sanguine from San Francisco (United States) on 2003-06-20 20:18 [#00749914]

What the heck is wrong with sounding like Mr. James? I
aspire to reach such levels of genius, and I'm gonna imitate
him all to hell.

He imitates all kinds of artists. Almost all his sound isn't
"his own"... especially his early stuff.

The key is, of course, to be able to move on past that, into
your own sound. But I don't think anyone posting tracks up
here is even close to that. Yeah, maybe if you're just
looking to get sold on an "original sound" but I'm sure as
hell not going to sell out that quick... gimme a year or
two, then ask me again

Got two tracks floating around that are new within the last
three days... don't know where my threads went though,
Marsupial and some other one

Cos if your stuff just sounds like an AFX rip off people
will think
"AFK rip off".

Now, if you want to do that it's up to you but music that
impresses me is stuff that's good for good's sake, not good
for Richard's.

Oh, and don't expect a record deal either.

There's a huge difference between citing musical
references/using style or genre 'waypoints' (for want of a
better expression - it's 4:31am) and being a derivative and
uninspired copyist.

Obviously, I accept one learns one's trade from a master,
but I am pointing out that pepole who's sole musical output
consists entirely of making music like Richard are people
who's music just ain't as interesting as those whose stuff
is an attempt to be themselves.

There IS a difference. That's why I made sure to say (above)
that I wasn't really alluding to weatheredstoner's track,
since that is good music imho.
It may remind me of AFX, but it's obviously not made by some
talentless copyist.

okay.. mechs travel west-
interesting melodies, the drums could use some more
variation possibly, but i like how they come in and out like
that.. i was expecting a western sounding track, but this
was more asian sounding or something..
attachingmechanicallimbs remix - this is probably the best
track i've heard from you. much more fast pased than the
original, but still keeps the general feeling of the
origina. very interesting.

and sorry.. i don't think i downloaded the right track(s)

no you dl/ed the right tracks. thanks for your input!

About mechs travel west - I can see how you expected a
western sounding track, but I think the song represents the
Mechs leaving from the East to travel West, instead of just
taking place all in the west :)
