Fuck Ableton

offline pulseclock from Downtown 81 on 2007-11-19 20:46 [#02145664]
Points: 6015 Status: Lurker

I just fucking Deleted the most beautiful track i have ever
made,

I fucking had it all in arrangement, and because i'm too
poor to afford the Real Ableton, I've Been using the demo,
and just recording it down to .wav audio files.

I had it ALL in the arrangement view, and i fucking Quit.

I was so proud of myself,

IS THERE ANYWAY to recover that shit?
or to recover something that was in arrangement view?

maybe there's a way, to like, gather audio files that have
been played on my computer speakers somehow? is there a
probgram that does that?

If you quit without saving, there is no way to get it back.

If it's any consolation the track probably wasnt as good as
you thought it was anyway.

only like 80mb.

nothing disappears - if you had recorded wavs of tracks they
are still on your pc but probably called somehting like
"199822284.wav" or "temporaryshitfileableton.wav" somewhere.
search them and put the track together in another program.

on the other hand the ableton designers may be so clever
they actually made some automatic script that deletes the
files at the end. then your fucked actually.

then you could still use a data recovery program
i doubt mr pulse has recorded .wav's though, maybe he means
something else

yeah, you've got to check to see if ableton makes an auto
back up, which it probably does.

look for a temporary files folder in the ableton folder.

i use some demo software occasionally and although you can't
save the file, you can quit the software with the file open
and then locate the copy in the temporary file.

yeah, fuck Ableton for charging for their software, paying
their employees wages and shit so their kids can go to
school and have health care and what not. Who do they think
they are?

Actually....

The same thing happened to me on a Mac. And truth be told,
I bought the software with no hesitation. IMHO they
deserved my $. It also helped that I was in school at the
time and the student discount was nice. I suggest signing
up for a retarded class at the local CC and buying it with
said discount.

Look it at this way, if the DAW assisted in what you are
calling "the best track ever," maybe it would be worth it to
throw them some change?

I once heard that the [k]'s are actually part of their
business model. I think it is smart and totally subversive.
They release their own "time released" cracks so they work
just long enough to get you hooked, than leave you powerless
unless you buy it. Very, very smart. It worked for me and
the piece of mind that it would never crap out again was
worth the cost.

themselves the works of inventors and the treasures of the
wise: they call their theft culture - and they turn
everything to sickness and calamity.

The worst experience I had with Live was this:

I was working on a song and went to open a new one. Live
asked me if I wanted to save my song and I hit yes. So it
hung there for a minute saving the current song and opening
the new one. When it was finished, it displayed the name of
the song I wanted to open in the title bar, but the content
was identical to the song I had just been working on.
Basically, it had overwritten the song I wanted to open with
the data from the previous song, deleting the contents of
the song I wished to open.

Ableton technical support was unable to help. They said
that they thought the song was a Cubase file when they
looked at the data. I am not sure if I had some kind of
virus or if it was a glitch. It was a 2001 ibook with only
128 mb ram. Since I have been working on a newer G5 I
haven't had the problem.
