I just spoke to Portishead nd they said they intervened on
stopping you getting a ticket because they both frightened
about you being there on account of you being, in Beth's
words, "some sort of fucking freak"

wow is that the only response i get? i could have sworn
there were others here going... I would have though more
would be seeing Aphex Twin, or have all the Twin fans left
the board now?

i'd go if i wasn't actually way, way far away. i'm really
wondering is portishead has any spunk left in them. oh and
aphex sets are always cool.

Ok, so it turns out that I have one extra ticket for this.
Aphex Twin headlining, along with Portishead, Julian Cope,
Earth, and about a million other diverse and awesome bands.
If you would like to see these bands and FURTHERMORE if you
would like to make friends with three hip young students,
then this is a pretty great festival opportunity for doing
that!

The festival takes place in Butlins, in a little town called
Minehead, which is not a million miles away from Bristol.
Information regarding trains, travel, etc can be found on
the official website linked below, along with a full lineup
of bands. I went to the Dirty Three ATP earlier this year
(also at Butlins) and it was a lot of fun. Really, this
festival is a pretty great experience.

http://atpfestival.com/events/portishead/

You will be staying with three university students (that is,
me and two friends). We're a pretty nice bunch.

Contact me with any questions or concerns - I am pretty
desperate to sell this ticket, hence I am selling it at face
value (£130).

Write me via:

jmckernon
~at~
gmail.com

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Man I really wanted to goto this. I was planning on going
but I had no idea where the fuck these places are. If I had
people to go with it might have been easier. If I bought a
plain ticket I think this would be like what 1400$ from
canada? shyt

ARGGGGG
4 fucks sake

last year some bands played twice cos not everyone could fit
in the main hall at the same time. i wonder if its like
that.
i think i snuck in and saw Dinosaur Jr a second time though
so no problem.

woohoo this is my fifth atp and the reason that i went for
the first one (dec 2004) was partially due to aphex twin
playing..

its a great festival, very small, intimate with great
performances. i hope both sets are different.. thing is,
they'll probably clash with something

did anyone from here go? Aphex Twin was crazy, first time
seeing him live, the crowd went mental when he came on, i
guess most are still recovering still...

Portishead were amazing, there new stuff sounds really good
and very different to their last two albums, check out the
youtube video's... someone passed out behind me after the
second track (a new track), and my mate passed out right
next to me, during one of the new tracks... strange...

Another band that was really good live was Boris, I had high
expectaions for Sunn 0)) but there was too little variation
and what was the singer supposed to be? A giant caterpillar?

can you say a few things on what aphex's set was like?

you mean the setlist? I didn't recognise most of the
songs... the first one i recognised was a Burilal track, i
think it was off the self titled album as it had little
vocals, he played some tuss, funny watching people try to
dance to Death Fuck

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-10 10:45 [#02152805]

not setlist..was is the sort of thing he usually does...
starts of easy and gets really mental towards the end? i
guess it was..

it was a little disappointing that it wasn't really a proper
Aphex Twin performance where he played all his own music...
it was more like just a DJ set, which i guess anyone could
have done.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-10 11:36 [#02152838]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

he usually doesn't play his own music..perhaps a couple of
tracks. and i've been to a lots of parties but i haven't
heard anyone do a dj set like rdj before..

yeah i guess so, i mean you could tell it was an aphex twin
set... has he ever done that though, play all his own music?

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2007-12-10 11:52 [#02152843]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

maybe in his early years yeah but almost certanly not in the
past 10. there was lots of his music in turin set from
couple of years ago but it was a bit different thing since
cunningham was involved with the visuals..

offline xkejjer from Malta on 2007-12-10 12:10 [#02152851]

he did a great set on saturday.. he played a lot of songs i
didnt recognize.. they may very well have been his songs,
just unreleased..

the set was brilliantly built.. first he started slow,
almost trip hop like, then he started injecting danceable
idm, sorta techno (even detroity at times) and lots of
acid.. slowly upping the tempo until a mad final 20-30
minutes of nasty drill n'bass

i saw him 3 times now.. i think this set cuold have been as
good as when i saw him at Glade festival 2005

Portishead were amazing, a legendary gig. i just disliked
one of the new ones and the old ones were rendered
beautifully, cowboys was probably the weekend's highlight.

i _think the burial trak was southern comfort, its on my
partial recording,my friend knows cos u can hear him saying
"this is burial"
is recorded 1/2 of the sunday nite, then my recorder turned
off cos doing the mp3 encoding must take more battery life
or something

he played Teddy Oggie off the fake tuss myspace on the
saturday!
( i only caught 1/2 of that, fancied some Jah Shakah cos the
Queue 4 aphex was FUCKING LONG and i was completely twunted
)

ill u/l it, i tried to listen to it the day after when i got
home but i got really depressed for some reasone! it brought
it back completely )

i got some good recordings of all the ppl banigng on the
smoking area tables too : )

:( if the current state of the dollar wasn't in the shitter
I'd probably would have considered going to this. but since
i have to pay double for the ticket, hotel room + other
expenses etc there is no consideration to be made. I can't
afford it without selling vital organs, the only way I'm
seeing this is through shitty youtube camera phone clips.

on a sad side note, the only shows that are here locally for
the next few months at least at the main arena here in town
(there are small local clubs but they're littered with
shitty metal bands that all sound the same or emo crap)

Toby Keith
Hannah Montana
Highschool Musical: The Ice Tour
Rascal Flatts
Professional Bull Riders: Built Ford Tough Series!
Matchbox Twenty
Smucker's Stars on Ice
and a bunch of college sports bullshit.

NYC is 3 hours away, but there are hardly any line ups like
this there. If there are, i find out about them weeks after
the fact...If aphex ever played down there, i would be there
in a heart beat. likelyhood of that occuring...very slim.

professional bull riders sounds thrilling enough as is but
when you find out it's the BUILT FORD TOUGH series it's like
man you're mentally retarded if you miss out on that blast
of testosterone that is ford sponsored bull riding. i will
pray to the creator above this series hits my city like a
ton of sweaty balls cut off the bulls deemed too weak for a
built ford tough rider.
