i guess you'd have to see it
in the end all that matters is what has the thing you're
looking for
but since waffles is better, because the staff is better,
the thing you're be looking for will be on waffles

I'd still love to get a waffles invite. I haven't been that
active as of late but I've been part of this community for
many years...hence the 'ancient mod' status.

i don't mind the staff. the layout can jump a whole in the
sky. but does it actually have more electronic musics than
what? if you search for, say the likemind ep's in flac, does
it return anything? if it does, i'd pay you for a waffle.

thanks! saves me a lot of money.

on a completely unrelated note: just found a dark comedy
release on beatport, carbomite maneuver. both mixes of
without a sound (the left brain, and the right brain mix)
are absolute stunners of classics!

whaffles has three (global darkness, man or machine and
xeo-genetic).

i don't have any whaffles invites. i hate to admit, but i'm
not powerful enough.

Pardon my ignorance on Waffles, but isn't slsk still the
best when it comes to Electronic Music specifically? I
realize there's probably more to Waffles then that, but as
vlari pointed out with his search of likemind......slsk has
everything.

if it has the likeminds in flac you can upload it on
what/waffles. i'd be happy to help you improve your ratio

slsk has got too much crappy rips, slower dl speeds and
you'd always have to be lucky whether or not someone is
online. what/waffles is a moderated heaven.

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2008-01-14 00:33 [#02163429]

Yeah, I can understand the difference between a p2p like
slsk and a torrent setup site. As for the whole bad rips
and low quality formats. I just download a converter off of
download.com and anything that I want to make a FLAC or
320kbs mp3 I do it that way.

I dunno, I haven't had bad luck with slsk. It's hard to
find stuff a lot of the time because of the way it pulls
names. Like take likemind for instance. You can pull it if
someone has it in the name (I.E. Likemind03 - Redcell - The
Silicon garden), otherwise your best bet is to type a song
name in like "The Silicon Garden."

I thought people were rushung to waffles because of fear of
RIAA and whatnot, since torrents work completely different.

offline OK on 2008-01-14 09:23 [#02163485]
Points: 4791 Status: Lurker

uh? you download from soulseek, and then you convert it to
FLAC or 320kbps mp3s?

that's a big no no.

Why is that a "big no no?" Do you mean a technical no no or
an ethical no no.

offline QRDL from Poland on 2008-01-14 12:10 [#02163538]
Points: 2838 Status: Lurker | Followup to revpersona: #02163527

It can be done, but it makes no sense at all. You cannot
recover the information lost during compression. A 128kbps
mp3 converted into 320kbps still contains only 128kbps of
significant data. You're deceiving everybody who downloads
these files from you basing his decision on grounds of
quality.

offline revpersona from Plainfield (United States) on 2008-01-14 12:19 [#02163540]
Points: 3167 Status: Lurker | Followup to QRDL: #02163538

Very good, that's why I asked. I'm not deceiving anyone, I
don't go through my library and convert everything, that
would take forever. I did not know compression worked like
that.

So folks want Waffles for quality over quantity (in the case
of Electronic music).

waffles and what have plenty of quantity as well, and the
staggering quality only ensures the continued increase in
the quantity as well.

join, these communities work off of people who want to
actually share music.

if you promise to keep your ratio up and seed as well as you
can and not ratio-farm, i can send a what invite your way.

Continuation of User Purges posted on 01/15/08 05:39PM by
MattieTK
These purges we've done have been quite successful - we've
cleared out thousands of members in order to make room for
potentially valuable ones. However, in some cases, the
reactions to our opening registrations have been less than
satisfactory.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you, our
dear users, that selling invites, trading invites, and
giving invites away to random strangers is not tolerated,
and any users found doing so will have their invites
revoked, along with their entire invite trees. This is for
the good of the entire community.

The following activities, also, will get you banned:

Inactivity - Any member of the 'user' class who hasn't
donated or logged in for 4 weeks is getting disabled. People
with bad ratios (ie. peons) that haven't logged in for one
week are getting disabled. People who have created accounts
but haven't ever logged in are getting disabled.

Dupe accounts - we disable both accounts in these
circumstances. Extensive measures are taken to ensure that
we don't catch room-mates or relatives with the same IP
addresses, so you don't have to worry unless you personally
have multiple accounts.

Bad ratio - Keep your ratio above 0.4, and you'll be
alright. At some point, I'm going to purge every single
peon. There is no excuse for having a poor ratio - if your
upload speed is slow, only download what you can afford and
upload torrents to make up the difference.

Hit and runs - Seed the torrents you download (and stop
complaining about it on the forums - this just draws
attention to you). Ratio farming off Rosetta stone and
hit+running everything else makes you a terrible user, in
our books.

Being a moron - Trolling in the forums or IRC is extremely
hazardous to your account. Complaining about staff decisions
qualifies you as a moron. 'Giving advice' to the staff (eg.
"LOCK THREAD NOW PLZ KTHX") qualifies you as a moron.
'Spamming' (eg. one line posts saying things like "lo

l fail") qualifies you as a moron. Flaming other users
qualifies you as a moron.

Uploading crap - Any user who uploads a low bitrate torrent
from now on gets his or her upload rights revoked.

Breaking the rules in general - The rules have changed a
fair bit from what they were when we started. Even though
you may not have read the latest version, you are still held
by them. We urge each and every user to re-read the entire
/rules.php, from top to bottom. Saying "oh, I didn't know"
is not an excuse when your account has been disabled for
breaking the rules.

Also, we are demoting all 'power users' with less than 15
gigs uploaded, and we are raising the minimum upload amount
for power user status to 25GB. This will add exclusivity to
the class whilst still allowing long time users with slow
connections to attain this goal. It will also pave the way
for new features we can implement.

If these purges go as well as we expect, we'll be able to
open invites again, for more quality users.
