Aphex's secret

offline Bill Burroughs from Colombia on 2007-10-31 03:02 [#02139426]

The real reason Richard James hasn't released anything
major in the past few years is because he's reportedly
spending much of his time registering new accounts on
various IDM net forums (including this one apparently) to
take the piss out of other artists.

I was told this yesterday by someone who actually knows
Richard James quite well - someone within his close
labelmates, - who ought to know because he has actually been
asked by Richard himself to take part in a kind of dissing
campaign against another artist - but little did Richard
know that the artist he was attacking was already in touch
with Richards mate. Apparently he operates several accounts
on a few IDM forums So it's all starting to come out, and
the shit is flying, as they say.

I asked what Richard is like in person, and he described him
like this: (this is word-for-word copied from my email):
"he's quiet but funny with it in a toilet-humour sort of
way. he's a shrewd bastard andhe can be quite manipulative
with people around him and definitely considers himself
above all the other musicians in the IDM scene. he's got a
paranoid streak - he doesn't take criticism well atall. ""

Now that confirms something i'd previously heard: that
Richard never got over the poor reaction to Drukqs and that
he was holding grudges against people who he considered to
be stealing his limelight.

Poor reaction to Drukqs?

Eh? Drukqs did spectacularly well and continues to sell (for
an IDM album) in big numbers. It also won him many new fans
when it came out.

Still, Smojphace was a bit of a joke, wasn't it? ;)

i too have an aphex twin secret, however, its so radical and
uncomprehendable that it can't be 'translated', so to speak,
into words.
i will reveal that it has something to do with the 'remixes'
he did for nine inch nails :O !!!

i don't see much dissing of idm artists. dissing reflects
pooly on the disser himself. unless i know someone,
dog_belch for instance, i won't listen to unfounded
ramblings

Actually I spoke to Richard 2 days ago and he is currently
working on a new album. The album will consist of 14 songs
all composed and performed on an unaccompanied Casio
VL-Tone. The working title is "Songs For Mum," and is set
to be released in late February.

drukqs was in fact not very well received at the beginning
but i mean come on - what can you expect after you release
an album saying that it consists generally of poo and you
just released it because you lost your mp3 backup ? - that
storry was the biggest fake in idm ever actually.

Well, Dicky's not doing a very good job is he, despite all
this time apparently spent on the "boards", because I don't
know which artist he's meant to be dissing. Who is it? Lory
D? Proem? Or is it The Autehcre? However if he wants to sign
up to my board and clarify who he's dissing, I will
join forces and diss those bastards (whoever they may be)
and expose them as the shamefaced charlatans who only got
where they are today (which is nowhere) by holding on to
RDJs trackie bottoms. See how good I am?

Heh, its probably true. I know at least one of his aliases
on here, along with quite a few other famous types. It is
funny when they argue with each other, but they probably
know who each other is anyway.

He makes good music and is a sexy man.

If thats true its sorta funny. Being a Tyrant like this will
normaly come back and bite you in the ass. from what his
mate said bout him.

well the tuss is v. popular in this scene. and anyone into
IDM is into Drukqs i can assure you. Oddly enough rdj has
kept quiet about the whole tuss thing which isn't making HIM
popular for it either. just the music. which we all know is
him anyway ...lol

I can't see why someone like him, of great musical talent
puts his time to waste by attempting to belittle other
peoples achievements in the same field. These are sour
grapes indeed.

Maybe he could learn how to make tracks without them
clipping and hitting digital distortion, it'd really help.

LOOOOL was listening to SAW 2 just last night as
well...although people say its annoying/amatuerish. I really
like it, it adds to the whole charcter of the album. Its
like some dirty cd found in the woods, like the blair witch
project or something, the distortion and analogue qualityies
really give it a gritty imperfect quality which makes the
album better for me :D.
