Well I was very disappointed, I expected something funnier and with not such a "hipper than though" jokes that are usually spewed by the intellectual down at the coffeehouse that only attends play because hollywood is so corporate, but maybe i am reading into it too much. I did think gene hackman did a much better job than anyone else in that movie, so its woth seeing just for that. But the rest just seemed too predictable and lacked development of the individual characters.

Haven´t seen TRT (and I don´t want to), though the previews I´seen sounded quite interesting.
Nevertheless I´m waiting for the best movie of this year (still 55 days as I remember). Wouldn´t you agree with me "Sido-Dyas" (back from your trip to Kamino heh?)

sido: i loved it. it was the most flawless movie i've ever seen. the only problem (and i do mean only) i had with it was the cheap laugh it went for when danny glover
SPOILER SPOILER!
falls down that hole (and that's hardly a spoiler)
END SPOILER!
(i've always wanted to do that.) i loved it, all the subtle dialogue, and looks. just beautiful

Fantastic movie!
It has some great scenes, great characters. It gets better everytime I watch it. The scene where he's telling his wife he has cancer is nearly Kubrikian..

I think it would be a pretty hard one to dislike. It is one of those movies that you can probably base liking or diliking someone off of. People who don't like it just have problems. As simple as that.

it's okay.
I think "Rushmore" is much better.
it's like Anderson wants a kind of absurdness in his characters - in Rushmore this seemed to work and I cared about the characters (in other words they were believable). In The Royal Tenenbaums it feels like he's trying to repeat the formula only this time it doesn't work as well - I just didn't take to the characters as much.
Bill Murray is fantastic in Rushmore, really excellent.

i saw rt in the cinema on christmas day, the only time i can remember the audience spontaneously applauding a film when the end credits came up. some who disliked the film seemed turned off by the fact that it's not a comedy, strictly speaking (though both rt and rushmore were inaccurately marketed as comedies). it's drama with comedic touches. also, it's the filmic presentation of a fictional book presumably intended for or written by children, hence the references to children's literature (the mixed up files of *can't remember the name, frankenweiler?) and the strange combination of childlike simplicity and stunted development with adult situations and relationship complications. at the very least, i think it's utterly unique, and wes anderson's most complete vision (of his three films).
