Saul Williams has made a new album! it will be
released on November 1st and you can get it either :

• for free, in 192 kbps mp3
• for $5, in either 192 kbps mp3, 320 kbps mp3 or FLAC
• or on cd, in early 2008.

also, it's produced by Trent Reznor and one track is called
"WTF!".

i'm pretty excited about this, his self-titled album was
great : )

I listened to the "leaked" *roll eyes* track. While the
production that went into mixing etc is really good, the
track is highly forgettable to me. one listen was enough.

There was a time when i would have loved to hear that Trent
Reznor was giving his music away or selling it outside of
the record label system...that was two albums ago. I'm sure
a lot of artists will be doing this type of release which is
cool. Sometimes that studio artist conflict is needed
though...or else you get material like the track mentioned
above.

Radiohead didn't do shit. Prince, Neil Young, and a
gazillion of artist have been putting full albums online for
free.

THIS IS FUCKING FANTASTIC.

5 bucks for an album in Flac is EXACTLY the model I wanted
and hoped for. Looking forward to an email on Nov. 1 with my
files!

Everyone should buy this and help stab a knife into the
black heart of everything that's wrong with the music
industry. GO GO GO come on let's get on it, let's ordering
music happy family yes!

with NIN style distorted mayhem. funkydrummer included!

allow me to completely rescind that statement

"black history month", "tr(n)igger", "raised to be lowered"
are just great and i cant use words to say how much i like
them. they are so good. being black and growing up in
america and being "peculiar" (as far as common personality
traits go) i know where saul williams is coming from, i feel
him. its all so true and the rage he expresses in these
songs is so touching because it is so fucking raw and so
strange. and the music is just fucking unconventional and
pretty raw

the rest of the songs; i dragged and dropped onto the trash
icon in osx almost by reflex

what the fuck's wrong with trent reznor? i just want to say
to him, "give saul some alone time and let him loose. keep
your ass out of it."

you can hear hear trent reznors influence all over the
album its just this awful "i am a rock star" crap, just turn
your fucking guitar off trent. just put it down and go away.
don't touch on the keyboards, just keep your ass out of the
studio and let saul mess with your expensive equipment. take
the reverb off of those drums, shut your dumb self in a
closet and go to hell. the only song it works on is "raised
to be lowered". otherwise trent should have just stayed away
from the drum set or whoever it was - or whoever "made"
those songs.

how can you work with saul williams and not know what sort
of music to make for his vocals? how stupid do you have to
be, and why would you allow it to be heard by someone else?

"raised to be lowered" is good and "tr(n)igger" is good .
the rest are just a bunch of garbage

saul shouldve made this album with gescom, skeksi, opus, or
adrock from the beastie boys. those are some white boys
who'd know how to make a black man sound good ovr their
beats. listen to that sensational remix by autechre that
remix is razor sharp

nothing against trent reznor i just think he put too much of
himself into it and its brutal

you make this album sound like its nin with a different
singer, I just got the album and its nothing like that, yes,
Reznors influence is obvious... but not the degree you
imply. Having said that i think Reznor is an outstanding
producer, and his influence on anyones music is no bad
thing.

I'm liking it so far, I think its a grower...

funny that you dropped tracks into the trash after
listening, what, once, twice? do people no believe in
'albums' any more?

Won't anybody else miss CDs? I *like* CDs. They often have
pretty covers, and it's nice driving to a shop to get a CD,
and then driving back and playing the CD in the car. It's
like Christmas was when you were six all over again, sort
of, vaguely. Now I'll have to make mp3 cds. :-(

i like cds as well... i haven't listened to the album yet
because i can't decide whether to pay $0 or $5 for it — i
want to support the artists, but i'd rather buy a real cd
than pay for mp3s...

The irony is that if you took out Saul's vocals and replaced
them with Trent's, um, approximation of the same style... It
be WAY better than the last two anal leakages he called NIN
albums.

It's almost like being unable to listen to your own advice.
It's easy to tell someone what THEY need to do, though it's
impossible to swallow it if the same thing was prescribed to
you.

Trent really needs an out of body experience and somehow
rethink his entire delivery.

Though I wasnt feeling the Pusicifer album, I'll give it to
Maynard that his multiple personality as a vocalist will
definitely keep HIM interested, thereby keeping him
interesting.

Now imagine relistening to the entirety of Niggy Tardust,
with Trent on vocals. Now imagine the album was called Nine
Inch Nails' "Insert Industrial Emo Title Here." It would be
amazing.

Trents inevitable downfall is his relationship with gravity.
He just orbits his own planet staying predictable and dare
I say, cliche.

Pitchfork gave it a 7.3 but inexplicably laments that it's a
challenging listen. Sorry grampa, have some iced tea and
Henry Mancini while you're coming down.

My friend got this and played it in the car. I thought it
was just OK. It really reminded me of Tricky for some
reason, who is also hit or miss for me.

I really think the self-titled Prick album was a
great example of Reznor's signature production style on
another artists album. He does some backing vocals (not
credited but it sounds just like him) on here and there is
also some sequencing that sounds like his. Also the
legendary Alan Moulder mixed the album.

Any of you youngsters who weren't listening when this came
out in 1995 should check it out.
