has anyone of you ever used spdif connections between any
gear?

i tried to connect a synthesizer (novation x-station) to my
soundcard (emu 1616) through the spdif digital ports but it
somehow doesn't work. the emu does get a synchronising
signal from the x-station but nothing more - no sound comes
out.

can anybody help me? actually can i use a simple
chinch-chinch cable or is something more complicated needed?

I have an E-mu 1820, and I use s/pdif, but only out from the
card via coaxial to my receiver.. I haven't used the in
yet.

I don't know what the s/pdif out on the novation is, but if
it's coax, you need a cable with the correct impedance (75
ohm is the normal thing, I think) at least. Try using the
yellow cable on one of those a/v cables with one yellow
(video) and red/white.

You should also check if the novation is set to actually
send audio data over the s/pdif, and that the e-mu card is
set to receive s/pdif (and not ADAT or whatever).

the hardwares are configured correctly for sure - as i said
they synchronise together and when i change the sampel rate
on the x-station the emu changes as well.

i just tought that silence may be because i use a normal
simple cable for connecting them. no coaxial for sure.

okay that was so incredible that i will fist myself in a
second - i had the volume knob on the x-station turned down
to zero...
