Which album would you recommend for a first time listener
of Drexciya? Feel free to simply state an album title, or
explain in detail why you chose it. Long response or short,
I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks. :)

So, we've got two votes for 'The Quest' and two votes for
"The Journey Home." Things are really heating up!

well, fuck me. you can buy anything that has the name
drexciya on it!

ergo, go to discogs. type in drexciya. go to the artists
page. make a print. take the print with you to your local
idm-store. put on your accountant thinking-cap and check
each record on the list. return when done. and post the
results with some spreadsheets and graphs and stuff.
pivot-tables are cool too.

but if you go for efficiency, just check the quest.

I've had the quest since last night but I don't believe in
giving music a cursory first listen, and as I was about to
go to bed, I decided to wait until today to listen to it.
I'm going to begin listening right now, in fact. I'll be
sure to let you guys know how it went.

Just wanted to say thanks everyone for contributing and
showing interest. Oh, and feel free to recommend related
projects as well. :)

Well, I didn't know that drexciya was more acid than
experimental electronic, but it's really good so far. Acid
isn't my favorite type of electronic music, but I've been
digging this. My favorite track thus far is Antivapor Waves.

is it not acid? I dunno, a lot of the tracks remind me of
Analord. I admit my knowledge of the genre of acid is not
extensive, to say the least. :)

Ah yeah RDJ is a major fan of Drexciya, some Analord tracks
like Backdoor.Spyboter.A sound like an homage to Drexciya.

generally considered to be a part of?

Electro-techno or just Detroit techno to some but to be fair
they covered a lot of genres plus both Donald and Stinson
had a very particular style.

just wait 'till you have internalized those awkward
drexciyan melodies: they're like a drug. you'll recognize
those sounds from a million miles away. it's the perfect
blend between techno, electro and acid. kinda like kraftwerk
growing some huge funk-brown balls, and grooving the brains
out yer head with sweaty aggro beats.

just finished CD1 a few minutes ago, about to embark on CD2
of the quest. CD1 is a 4.5/5 for me, but I think it may grow
on me with time to become a 5/5. I really can't think of a
single negative aspect of CD1 other than simply what some
might refer to as the "limitation" of the genre being so
repetitive in nature. It's not that repetition is inherently
bad, I've just grown quite comfortable with "IDM" tracks
slathered with bridges, time changes, evolutions etc.
throughout. Still, I think goDel is correct in that I'm
going to get addicted to these guys. Will check out The
Journey Home and Neptune's Lair next.

thanks for contributing, guys.

good, another convert.

this is what the world needs: more people searching for an
original copy of the quest. how much do they go for on ebay
nowadays? -> 20 pounds with 4 days to go. i'd be surprised
if it goes for less than 40. which is still not enough, btw.

that's just the idea behind limited releases, isn't it?
people pay shitloads, but the artists gain absolutely
nothing.
