What are you going to be this year?

I'm dressing up as an underachieving white American with no
achievable goals! Or a ninja, we will see.

I've never really understood why Americans treat halloween
as a more general (spacemen, cowboys, belly dancers,
etc.)fancy dress, rather than a horror/occult themed one. Is
it because of conservative Christianity's wishing to
distance the occassion from anything unholy? I'm not
criticising, I've just always thought it odd and wondered
what the reasoning behind it was.

i know people that won't even acknowledge halloween because
of their conservative christian views.

halloween is technically about demons, the devil, evil
spirits and stuff, cults, whatever....but over the
years/decades and decades its turned into a comercial thing,
its not 1930 any more, and the kiddies go door to door, or
there are special events at public places like parks, zoos
and the malls for the kiddies to dress up and get thier
treats and all :)

I dont know about the trying to "distance the occasion from
anthing unholy" just how many ghost and vampires, draculas
and frankensteins do you really need ? Its the one time of
the year where mommies get to dress up all slutty, and im in
favor of that :)

side note: I admit it, that when i was in high school, we
would scare little kids on the street and take thier whole
bag of candy :(....im very generous with the treats when the
kiddies come by the house now.

Remember:
brush and floss your teeth.

anyone ever get the douchebags who, in lieu of giving candy,
break out the jars of oxidized 40-year-old pennies that
smell like grandma's attic? One word: A-W-E-S-O-M-E.

That was worded poorly... If anyone's confused, they gave
just a handful of pennies, not the entire jar (which
wouldn't be any better).

I remember we had a halloween party at my church that was
(horror) fancy dress and we had to keep quiet about it,
because some of the wardens etc. would get worked up about
it. Unsurprisingly, the priest didn't lead us in a satantic
orgy of bloodletting and human sacrifice, we just had a
party dressed up as monsters. I won the prize for best
costume for my home made skeleton outfit.

I might print out some copies of this to give to
trick or treaters. I particularly like the way it focuses on
spiders as being evil, even though spiders are animals which
are not biblically related to evil or the devil at all. The
Muslims would have a field day with this idea of one of
God's creatures being evil (I believe it would be
blasphemous to them).

are you 13 dude, how the fuck would you get caught-
do you not know the way the world works
6am-7pm people go to work
7pm-10pm family time/watch tv
10pm-6am the racoons and night animals come out
if you ever go out after 10pm either here or there
the streets are pretty much dead

besides if you did foolishly get caught, it would be a funny
read in the next days newspaper :)

Generally this is true, but I think you're neglecting to
mention the increased police patrols and general heightened
sense of fear and distrust that members of neighborhood
watch muster on nights such as halloween. People almost
expect their houses to get TP'ed/egged in certain
areas on nights like that, especially if they've had their
property vandalized by teens in the past. Or was it just my
neighborhood that it felt that way?

mention toilet paper or eggs or whaever trips your fancy

I'm living in Florida at the moment, but possibly
(waiting on a lot of tentative details to work themselves
out) making a move to Washington state in the next year or
so, so I might be able to stop by in Nebraska during the
drive.

If you don't drink, we'll meet up for a coffee, then. Or
just bring the fam and we'll go bowling or something. :)
