autechre and boc are idm aphex and squarepusher are braindance the music now is as good now as ever, there's just tons more to access, tons more crap too so it is rarer to discover gems and also the world is temporarily bewildered by the effects of the digital evolution, combined with political restrictions on lifestyle, capitalism, religion... especially when bands/media persist with gradually degrading variations on guitar rock standards - hardly ever is there more than one great person in a band |

as far as i know idm was only ever made in america cos i dont know anyone over here (uk) that calls it that a few germans do but not other many europeans ive met is boc idm? its not that intelligent altho i like it and i think most of its too slow to actually dance to that just leaves music shall we just call it music instead |
