I wanted to see it. Its playing here because the Chicago
International Film Festival is currently going on but I
don't know. I was out and about during last Friday's
screening and saw people with Joy Division tshirts and it
just made me want to download/rent it instead.

Its playing again Tuesday. I might go see it then.

Beware! The link is a trap! It will trap you in a
neverending cycle consisting of "hey... haven't I read this
before?" followed by "ooh... a link..." and so on and so on!
You're evil!

I'm really annoyed cos the nearest place I can see it is
Cardiff - 90 minutes away. Next Saturday I'll be going up
there.

it was excellent, lovely b/w photography, the guy who played
Ian Curtis IS Ian Curtis in the live scenes! And there is a
hot french chick in it too which is always good.

she's belgian, you IDIOT.
Anyway, just got back from seeing this. I thought it was
great too. My friend who I went to see it with, said she
wasn't too impressed as she never felt too connected with
the characters. I had to disagree though. I thought the way
that the hopelessness and desperation and misery that take
over you with depression, was portrayed amazingly.

It's always nice watching a film set in a place where you're
from too. :) It made me a bit cynical about the accents
though, they all sounded a bit too northern, as if they were
from Yorkshire rather than Cheshire. The acting between Ian
and Annik was beautiful, maybe it's something to do with the
fact that they are actually in a relationship and fell in
love whilst filming Control.

They were from Macc, which is a wierd accent. My brother in
law went to the premier and said it was good too.

Heh, it wasn't a Macclesfield accent. He's from leeds and
you could really tell. His accent came through much stronger
than the character's. His wife's from Nottingham and was a
bit dodgy too

i really didn't like it. i mean they all look like a bunch
of pretty folk from one of those annoying beer commercials.
It wasn't gritty. it wasn't atmospheric. it was over
stylized and sign posty. The girl in it was good and the
live performances where admittedly very good but it's not a
good film. imo.

What do you mean it wasn't gritty?
I thought the portrayal of his depression was amazing.
Watching him was exactly like watching myself when I was
depressed (minus the suicide attempts etc). The way he just
sat there staring at the tv, with tears pouring down his
face, not concentrating on anything but still being
depressed as fuck was so realistic. The way no matter what
he was doing, whether singing or fucking his wife, his mind
wasn't fully there, it was completely submerged in his
depression, and he constantly broke down whatever he was
doing, was exactly as depression is.

One thing I wasn't too keen on was they slight modernisation
of the clothes & hair etc. I mean, maybe my standards of
authenticity are too high after something like This Is
England, where they got it completely right which really
added to the film. I just thought that perhaps they were
trying to dilute the datedness of the fashion - which is a
real shame, the look was integral to that movement really.
The manager guy looked like he was straight out of an
American Apparel advert :(

Also Coogan's Tony Wilson was much better I thought. The
script was quite stylised which isn't necessarily a bad
thing, but I don't know, I just think that era would have
benefitted from being portrayed with a bit more
realism/naturalism.

maybe it's because the actors played the songs themselve as
well: so it was to emphasize that it's just actors
portraying how the director saw this story

so it's by this dutch photographer guy corbijn (who's been
in england forever now, one of the first bands he
photographed was control), he's famous for, among other
stuff, the u2 pictures. also he made nirvana's heart shaped
box, and metallica's until it sleeps.

To be fair, I think all Anton really did was run the camera
and do his trademark blurring of the face for the Heart
Shaped Box video. It really was all Kurt's idea.

Most of his videos I've seen involve vehicles driving
somewhere. I like them. Especially the black and white
ones.

His video for Atmosphere is one of my favorite music
videos.
