Incredible that they managed to keep it under the radar
until now. Looking forward to this.

I think its happened in the last hour or so. Its insane.

If you choose the digital download and go to buy it, you can
choose how much you want to pay for it. ie nothing

the box thing seems a bit analordy, I wonder whether they
were influenced by that concept.

I can't be skeptical though for the rather large reason that
THEY ARE RELEASING IT FOR FREE

FOR FREE

FOR FREE

the digital download is free - add it to the basket, then go
to the checkout, there's a box that you type in how much you
want to pay, and a little message that says 'its up to you'

I've just done it and it doesn't ask for credit card details
if you enter 0.00

ok I just did that, I cant see myself personally paying 40
GBH for the cd or 2-12"s. Id pay a few GBH's for the cd, but
cant do 40+shipping. Im gonna email them and give my two
cents.

Guessing the cd, and the 2-12"s will be going for grand $$
on ebay. The tracklisting looks ace-

They prol. kept it quiet because only the five of them new
about it, would be my guess.

i think they're making them to order though by the looks of
it - not sure until when though - hmm i might have to get
this box then

I hope it's for free , they got a lot of money. It's like
when the rich kid at school starts wearing che shirts. It
should all have been free since Pablo Honey :D

WEB2.0

I'd like to be the first one in line to PAY WHAT I WANT for
the 45 dollar tshirt at the stadium :D

(sorry I really like ok comp, kid a, and the one after I
just hate how all these bands this year are playing the
under dog when they are totally fucking wealthy. On the sign
up the mandatory phone field is my MOBILE PHONE and not land
line. Hey Thom gimme a Call ! Oh send me some viagra spam
instead d00d)

impressed.
thom yorke alway said he wanted to release this album their
own way and try and fuck with the music industry, but it
only seemed like a pipe dream of his. i'm seriously
impressed with this one!

if most people were gonna just download this for free, they
now have the option to download it for free off their site.
and of course, if they feel like paying a measly dollar,
they have the option. get rid of all the costs for a record
contract, and it seems radiohead might make themself quite a
profit through this.

what i'm trying to work out tho, is do you need a credit
card even if you're gonna pay nothing for the download?
will it appear on oink, if they don't allow music freely
released on the internet. i'm doomed!

if it is free indeed, it wouldn't be allowed on oink.
according to their rules:
No freely available material is allowed on this site, no
exceptions.

"radiohead have made a record"
hmm, I dunno. I think it should be "radiohead has made a
record". Yeah they maybe have plural members, whoever they
are. But the band itself can be thought of as a singular.
What do you think?

The best thing about this is that presumably they haven't
sent the masters to be pressed yet, hence the december
release for the physical thing. Which means that come oct
10th, the digital release date, it shouldn't have leaked.

I'm surprisingly thrilled by the prospect of everyone
hearing the record at the same time - that hasn't happened
for a major release since, I guess, 2000 or so, I really
dislike how when records come out now they've already been
on people's ipods for 4 months...

But surely most records are leaked as they're being pressed
- or an initial promo batch is being pressed. So by not
doing that yet they're minimizing the chances of a copy
finding its way onto the internet.

offline obara from Utrecht on 2007-10-01 09:05 [#02127067]

tolst believes that radiohead isn't the best music out there
and tries to convinced people at xltronic against listening
to them, cause he likes them

Points: 4480 Status: Lurker | Followup to clint: #02127066

thats true. which is what happened with all their recent
albums isnt it?

its kind of a big step from hail to the thief. i'm kind of
referring to that copy protection sticker that was planted
on the cover of the album, along with all that protection
junk on the cd besides the music.

I ordered the download for 0 and now I regret it. I
should've waited until it came up on soulseek or I found a
credit card I could use. Don't want to fuck-up the
experiment because I quite like it.

That being said, HTTT and Amnesiac were mostly boring
releases for me. I wasn't too excited about this one until
now.

offline clint from Silencio... (United Kingdom) on 2007-10-01 09:27 [#02127077]
Points: 3447 Status: Lurker | Followup to pigster: #02127069

I think so. I think the last one was slightly unique in that
somebody actually stole an unmastered version from the
studio - but I imagine it would have leaked had that not
happened anyway.

I remember getting songs from Kid A off napster, that was
prob one of the first examples of a major pre-release
leak...

that whole copy protection thing on cds was a dark period
for music i think. definately doesn't suit radiohead at all.
its good to see them making their own decisions now they've
finished their contract with EMI.
