Suggestions & feedback

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-11 12:58 [#00009197]

OK, fellows. The new site has been around for some
weeks now. Now, I need vocabulary feedback from you
as well as site suggestions (features, improvements and
modifications).

Who wants to start this very brainstorm session?

Glitch from New Zealand on 2001-06-11 13:23 [#00009199]

you know, I think this site is great, its really easy to
move around, and looks cool, though you could do with a
members section like Joyrex has/had, that would make it
cooler for us requlars :)

hexane from www.mp3.com/hexane on 2001-06-11 13:27 [#00009200]

in all seriousness, this site is fine. well, maybe...nah
forget it.

...actually, now that i thought of it, a chatroom would be
kinda sweet.

Glitch:
V5 of the community is having full support for memberlogins
etc, thereby tighting the community even more.

The upcoming login won't be limited to the messageboard but
also working as a gateway to various sections on the site.
The login will be fully integrated to the rest of the site.
Meanwhile add yourself to the unofficial fan member list.

Keep it coming.

hexane from www.mp3.com/hexane on 2001-06-11 13:32 [#00009203]

damn you glitch, you beat me.

btw, i checked out that ftsf guy, yeh pretty swell. needs a
bit more sugar to be my perfect cuppa :)

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-11 13:32 [#00009204]

Hexane:
Yeah, wait for v5. :-)

hexane from www.mp3.com/hexane on 2001-06-11 13:33 [#00009205]

phobiazero, are you ever at rest with this site?

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-11 13:37 [#00009207]

No, I'm never satisfied :-)

NoSeriousResponse from www.drehwelt.de on 2001-06-11 13:43 [#00009208]

This site is easy to navigate and it has a great style.
I´d keep it like this. But what about a Flash version of
the page? That would be pretty cool.
Have a nice day, guys!

streamer on 2001-06-11 13:51 [#00009210]

Perhaps a bar where the first drink is free and served up by
scantily clad women?

Glitch from New Zealand on 2001-06-11 14:01 [#00009211]

Swedish women too, Im sure Phob's would help out, seeing as
he lives there :)

od from perth on 2001-06-11 14:04 [#00009212]

erm yeah a chatroom
would be great
and being able to stream the whole tracks for audio samples
:)

SWAI from Denmark on 2001-06-11 14:31 [#00009214]

I think a chatroom would be a good idea!

theres always loads of people here one the same time....

ITS A GREAT SITE!!!!

Japes from London on 2001-06-11 16:18 [#00009216]

Please whatever you do, don't use flash Phobia. When I'm
surfing the internet, listening to IDM, I don't want a
barrage of sound and visuals in my face, I want content and
style.

And right now, this site has both content and style :)

Adikt on 2001-06-11 16:27 [#00009219]

go back to version 3 with the guy at the top holding out his
hand......if possible cos that rawks!

po{e} from the uk on 2001-06-11 16:35 [#00009223]

a chatroom will be nice, well, maybe not for me as everyone
hates me.. :(

boo hoo

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-06-11 18:06 [#00009233]

bring back v3 RDJ w/the moving lines across his face...
every person i suggested to go to this site has mentioned
that effect ever since. and perhaps a 24/7 chat room w/like
4 rooms so that things don't get all bogged down and start
lagging

Theifofalways from my house with a big hole in my head on 2001-06-11 21:19 [#00009262]

Phob, this page is great, ive said so since your first
revision. A chat room, might be nice, but i think those
rooms tend to debase conversation because of their
spontaneuosness, with the message board topics people tend
to stay on target whatever the subject, but again Phob, you
have been 100% on target, this is the only page i visit
regularly. Whatever you do with it, i will check it out.Id
even host if you had rooms. Once again and always, keep up
ypur work, its brilliant.

|REFLEX| from Western Canada on 2001-06-12 01:08 [#00009272]

phobiazer0: I think that a chat room would be awsome. but
also keep the messageboard, it would be for people that
can't just chat but want to leave info/messages to people,
and get responses. that would be neato.

rob fragilenine from a pink house with a yellow man in a tree on 2001-06-12 01:26 [#00009274]

why not have topic based chatrooms, a similar idea to
messageboards where anyone can create a topic, but people
come in to the room to talk about it...

ps. what does phobiazero mean anyway? are you afraid of
zeros :)???
in that case...
00000 000 00 0 00 000 000 00
00 00 00 0000 00 00 00 0 00 00

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-06-12 01:41 [#00009279]

improvements:

More cover art,.. front and back, and inside-the-front-cover
art,...

The jiggly pics : although these are good in theory,.. you
can't get the help tab (the little thing that appears when
you put the mouse on it for more than 3 seconds) without
glitching,.. It can be rather annoying

more custom zones
aphex custom pics (done)
aphex custom remixes (done)
aphex custom UI (stuff like winamp skins or mouse
pointers,.. windows backgrounds etc..)
aphex custom - (anything that can't be put under any of the
other's)

more "features" and more involvement with them,.... (prolly
very time consuming for you,.. but the regulars would
appreciate it)

have the learn section split up into more categories
like :
"biographies"
"interviews"
"articles"
"RDJ-is-mentioned in this article"
"somehow related"

and maybe even get some help to scrounge up all the reviews
of all the albums and songs that you can,...

fix all the typo's (there's quite a few)

fix the streaming samples,.. sometimes it'll play the next
song down,.. or the next one up,.. or just not play at all

make the custom remixes quicker to download,... sometimes I
can be waiting for a minute just for it to register that I
want to download something,..

when "notify me of future replies" is ticked and someone
replies,... put their e-mail within the reply,..

eg:
-----------------------------------------------
sugg's and feed

???? has made a reply on this topic
URL of topic *^#OK%JSA_S.html

????'s E-mail
URL of member ($&*$(@)KSKAK.com

or contact phobia zero on ,... you get the idea
------------------------------------------------

don't get me wrong,.. I love this site,.. But if no-one
tells you just what's wrong with it then there will never be
any improvement

I hope I've been incitefull and not annoying

rob fragilenine from picnic 301 on 2001-06-12 04:09 [#00009299]

in the messageboard index, it would be cool if you showed
who last modified the topic, and when it was first
created...

hexane from Melb on 2001-06-12 04:35 [#00009301]

maybe...with a little javascript trickery...the cursor -
when passed over those white-on-black buttons - could become
... the AFX symbol!! nah forget it, that'd probably get
annoying

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 12:51 [#00009344]

Ansers to TekN010G:

More cover art,.. front and back, and
inside-the-front-cover art,...

Sure, I'll start a massive scan-session. Expect them in V5.

The jiggly pics : although these are good in theory,..
you can't get the help tab (the little thing that appears
when you put the mouse on it for more than 3 seconds)
without glitching,.. It can be rather annoying

Anyone else feeling the same about this?

more custom zones
aphex custom pics (done)
aphex custom remixes (done)
aphex custom UI (stuff like winamp skins or mouse
pointers,.. windows backgrounds etc..)
aphex custom - (anything that can't be put under any of the
other's)

Yeah, I'm having a few "non-standard" contributions from you
guys (like cursors, fan stories, themes, skins etc). I'll
add them in V5.

more "features" and more involvement with them,....
(prolly very time consuming for you,.. but the regulars
would appreciate it)

What kind of features?

have the learn section split up into more categories
like :
"biographies"
"interviews"
"articles"
"RDJ-is-mentioned in this article"
"somehow related"

Sure, I'll take a look at it. Changes will be done in V5.

and maybe even get some help to scrounge up all the
reviews of all the albums and songs that you can,...

I'm having quite a lot reviews not yet added. Expect them in
V5.

fix all the typo's (there's quite a few)

Not my fault! I blame my keyboard. ;-)

fix the streaming samples,.. sometimes it'll play the
next song down,.. or the next one up,.. or just not play at
all

Huh? Next song? Anyway, I'll add samples from EVERY
track...sometimes they could be lagging a bit but it's
usually due to high demand from concurrent users.

make the custom remixes quicker to download,... sometimes
I can be waiting for a minute just for it to register that I
want to download something,..

The usual problem...It's working fine from
here...downloading remixes at 60 kb/s...instant downloads as
well...Can't do much about this since I know the webhosting
company for the remixes are having a VERY fast connection.

when "notify me of future replies" is ticked and someone
replies,... put their e-mail within the reply,..

eg:
-----------------------------------------------
sugg's and feed

???? has made a reply on this topic
URL of topic *^#OK%JSA_S.html

????'s E-mail
URL of member ($&*$(@)KSKAK.com

Why?

or contact phobia zero on ,... you get the idea
------------------------------------------------

Actually...No!?

what does phobiazero mean anyway? are you afraid of zeros
:)???

You could also look at it like... "fear nothing"

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 12:56 [#00009345]

A chatroom will be added in V5 (if I find a decent one).
Maybe we'll have to build one by ourselves...

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 12:59 [#00009347]

rob fragilenine:

I'll try to keep the MB minimalistic. Therefore no
unnecessary info on the index-page. :-)

po{e} from the uk on 2001-06-12 13:15 [#00009350]

phob, you should sort out some of the people here they are
ignorant to other peoples opinions, arragant with their own
opinions, and i am pretty sure they are nzis (rubbish jon),
i admit my name is kinda crap, but not as crap as streamer,
i mean wtf is this site?, i use it for talking about people
who share the commojn intrest with me, IDM and in paticular
aphex twin, so why are these moronic cretins asking for
trouble?, just ban their ip or something from logging on to
the site or something...

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 13:19 [#00009351]

Just ignore them. Don't screw this topic by starting
a discussion about opinions etc. There are already a few
topics about this somewhere else. End.

Organ Grinder from from my own little fantasy world on 2001-06-12 14:16 [#00009362]

Please have somebody monitor the chatroom in case flooders
come in. I HATE flooders. Also, is there some way for us to
preview the custom remixes BEFORE we download them? I mean,
i hate downloading a remix then listening to it and
realizing its crap, then knowing i wasted a good 20 minutes
of my life obtaining this crap. There probably is a way
already that i don't know about -- stupid me -- but if there
isn't, could help me out a bit?

Oh and by the way, an article on Rephlex was recently
released in an issue of URB magazine (May or June issue with
John Digweed on cover) It has a pic of Richard and a lot of
good reporting on Rephlex.

po{e} from the uk on 2001-06-12 15:17 [#00009369]

am doing phob, but they affect others aswell.

rubbish john on 2001-06-12 15:33 [#00009372]

jesus po{e}! stop crying and do as phobiazero says.

hello phobia,
sites with groovy moving graphics and sounds really get my
juices flowing - maybe you could do some of that shit.
someone else (sorry, can't remember who) suggested having a
way to hear the custom remix downloads before actually
downloading them - i idg this idea.

rubbish john on 2001-06-12 15:35 [#00009374]

oops.
i meant to type "i dig this idea"
boo my fingers!

Joyrex from joyrex.com, of course! on 2001-06-12 15:57 [#00009377]

As I am going through the same agonizing process that Phobia
is, I can sympathize with him on wanting feedback.

Here's a suggestion Phobia - drop the browns, perhaps
consider a different color pallette - I still can't figure
out why every aphex site ('cept mine) always seems to have a
'brown' version in it's history. :O]

I'm changing my pallette to something more daring than
before, just to break out of the same old mould.

Perhaps consider an alternate navigation system? Don't go
100% flash or DHTML because users WILL complain - trust me
on this :O] I'm implementing some new ideas I picked up here
and there on my new version of the site.

Last question: are you using NewsCat by any chance?

SWAI from Denmark on 2001-06-12 18:27 [#00009383]

Something that is worth considering is from the Bogdan
raczynski website.

Everyone has a little profile with tiny pictures and stuff
like that.

i dunno.... its really perfectionist like, because it really
really is a great site allready!

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 19:05 [#00009391]

I like my AFX:ish colorscheme! It has been there for ages
(except for V1).

And yes, I'm using NewsCat.

User profiles etc will be implemented in V5 as mentioned
earlier in this topic.

Joyrex from joyrex.com, of course! on 2001-06-12 19:09 [#00009392]

Aha! I thought so! :O]

Well, this colour scheme is fine, I just thought you'd like
to break away from the browns since you've used them for so
long now.

You should get Tunefish to incorporate some of the
messageboard things mine has into this one, or add the photo
feature at least-that's always a favorite.

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-12 19:53 [#00009395]

Photos etc will be bundled in the profile-feature found in
V5.

It's more grey/black than brown actually?

Organ Grinder from my own little fantasy world on 2001-06-12 21:00 [#00009399]

so that means we can log on from audio terrorist buddy
network (BPM) here in the future right? Cool!

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-06-13 01:07 [#00009427]

Thanx for answering all my questions phobiazero,... I'm sure
that version 5 will rock!!!!!

rob fragilenine from ... on 2001-06-13 06:25 [#00009446]

wouldn't it be kickass if you went for a blue colour scheme?
like a futuristic thing or something... one other thing:
keep the messageboard simple, ie. no pics and extra stuff
like joyrex... it takes way too long to load

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-06-13 08:38 [#00009454]

Blue?

Maybe. I'll improve the design/layout for V5. I'm very
satisfied with the navigation since many of you seems to
like it. It's easy to use. However, I'll prolly add a few
additional options to the bar.

po{e} from the uk on 2001-06-13 11:50 [#00009470]

rob, you probably have reduced your history/cookies and
explorer cache too quickly, mine loads up in 3 seconds (56k
modem)

Quoth from Lincoln on 2001-06-13 14:59 [#00009481]

Phobia: I thought you said that the tools you use to make
this site was a secret? I guess the cats out of the bag now,
isn't it?

|REFLEX| from Western Canada on 2001-06-13 15:04 [#00009483]

Phobiazero: here is a suggestion. I know the site is damn
easy to navigate through, and find what you want, but you
said you wanted to maybe add some stuff to the menu-bar up
top, well maybe you could generalize a little bit on thise,
without making it too long, or something like that. But the
colorscheme here is wonderful, and blends great; I would
never get tired of it!

Thats all I can think of for now...

Joyrex from joyrex.com, of course! on 2001-06-13 16:33 [#00009491]

Indeed, my board is zippy fast, so adjust your cache! :O]

I think that's a good suggestion on the navbar - you should
use DHTML to create tooltips that contain descriptions of
what's in the sections.

See, who says I'm not nice to Phobia? :O}

|REFLEX| from Western Canada on 2001-06-13 23:27 [#00009533]

Joyrex: Yes, that is what I meant! It would make it alot
easier to navigate through [although its very easy and quick
now]. It would make it easier to acess things that you want,
specificly.

hedtwin from manchester on 2001-06-14 00:29 [#00009537]

keep is simple i say. All this Flash stuff gets really
annoying. I reckon just improve on teh current idea without
changing it too much. Make it more an evolution than a
complete change. Good idea about adding that BPM thing.

|REFLEX| from Western Canada on 2001-06-14 00:52 [#00009539]

flash would make it annoying, i wasn't speaking of flash. I
was talking about the DHTML, for the menubars.

TekN010G from Australia on 2001-06-14 01:32 [#00009541]

Rob Fragilenine : About the color scheme,... I think that
phobia zero has tried to stay true to "warprecords" color
scheme's given to the artists

Aphex Twin : represented with a yellow square on warp
Autechre : represented with a grey square on warp

I don't think that It's a co-incidence that they happened to
use this color scheme

but phobia's "plaid" site seems to be the only exception to
the rule,.. it's represented in "skin" color on warp,.. but
phob made it dark blue,..

hmmmm,..

Am I guessing right?
