Ken Burns' ''The War''

Anybody been watching this documentary series? Aside from
hearing the stirring personal anecdotes, there's nothing
revelatory here, but it's still interesting to see all the
new footage and imagery. Some impressively terrible stuff.

Interesting soundtrack too. Lots of great jazz and swing,
and watching the stragglers from Japanese Banzai units
getting charbroiled (in living color) with Messiaen's
Quartet in droning in the background is a bit unnerving.

It's great to hear that you derive such entertainment out of
the personal misery of others.

He's desensitising himself in readiness for the U.S.
invasion of Canada on account of it being "too liberal".

I keep entertaining myself by imitating that southern woman.

It is a good doc. How much wonderful historical architecture
was destroyed in Europe during ww2?

The one that pronounces ''war'' like it has 4 syllables? She
is something else. What a dear.

I know! Seeing that abbey get shelled was heartbreaking, and
the many shots of Gothic cathedrals laid waste... ugh.

My only gripe with the doc is I never can tell if I'm
watching stock footage or actual footage of the subject at
hand

"How much wonderful historical architecture was destroyed in
Europe during ww2?"

Well there wasn't much left of Berlin for a start, it was
fucking flattened.

I know how many jews. I don't know about what structures
were destroyed. I'm not saying buildings are more important.
Or making some grand heartfelt observation. I'm just curious
and asking a question.

tee-hee. I'm have a synopsis for a love-story. It centres on
two heterosexual people, one male and one female. They both
work at the World Trade Center, one per tower. They fall in
love looking at each other from opposite window-ledges after
a brace of aeroplanes are flown into the buildings by rabid
anti-freedom Towelheads. Their strength and amazing
fortitude fill in the middle section, before they mutually
plummet to their deaths (and to heaven), their spirits
reaching across World Trade Center Plaza to wrap around the
other.

I call it "The Twin Towers of Love".

I want Spielberg to direct, especially since Stone made a
botch-job of his W.T.C. flick.

Well, they were gypped at the 2000 Presidential Election,
which has turned out to have horrendous ramifications not
only the U.S.A. but also for the world at large.

Apart from that, they've been gypped on Education and
Health-care, but they're partly related to the first gypping
mentioned.

Yes, Ive recorded them all, recording part 05 tonight, Im
wanting to watch them all relatively in a row, so Ive
decided not to watch them, also being dont have the time to
watch them.

At the "Indie" movie theater, on Sept 20, they showed a free
1.5 hour clips from the documentary, including stories from
fellow Nebraskans.

Id want to own this film, but the NET price was $129.99 for
all 14+ hours.

One time, out of sheer curiousity, I spread my buttcheeks
and looked at my anus in the mirror. A lone dingleberry
fell, untangled, from it's cage of asshair. I whiped a tear
from my eye. That was amazing.

He made a 12 part documentary series about jazz as well, but
I was very dissapointed with it. His coverage of the 50's
and 60's was just Miles Davis this and Miles Davis that...
Bummer!

Wasnt there a shitload of controversy about this Docu?
Apparently Ken Burns is super racist toward
Latin-Americans.
He's systematically left out any reference to the immense
contributions by Latin-Americans in both his "The War" and
"Jazz" documentaries and PBS was considering actually
pulling this until he made changes, which he never made.

Well, I didn't follow the controversy, but I remember a very
substantial segment that touched on one Latino's
difficulties fitting into a gung-ho Texan unit, so he
definitely must have changed some things.

And fuck I missed 6 and 7. I'd better proxy my way onto
Demonoid.
