ive heard of alot of the common ones, anyone know of odd
audio software for tweaking sounds? like granulab.

someone mentioned fractal musical programs. what are those
and where can i find them?

hehe, i'm the king of odd musical programs! that fractal
program is on a site somewhere...search for "quasi-fractal
music" and you'll find it, it's not to good, and only
outputs in midi. As for tweeking sounds....i sugest you use
fruity loops (the best damn sampler on the world! and i'm
assuming that you have it!), and then search for
"independant" VST effect plugins.

what do you mean exactly, pachi?

i use an old CoolEdit for my compositions so i can construct
polyrhythms on a very precise scale, assigning beats to the
exact milliseconds in time. it takes very long, tho, and i
wished i could do it a lot faster and easier.
i never played with CSound or Logic Audio before because i'm
not really a programmer, but those might me good for that
sort of thing.
sorry for the obscurity, it's sorta hard to explain :^þ

i should be concentrating on synthesis 2, not just rhythms,
but rhythms are usually the 1st thing that come to mind

hey, i understand...

I sugest everyone and anyone on this site to use fruity
loops. I actually started my (electronic) musical carrer (i
used to be a cellist when i was a kid) by remixing NIN songs
with windows sound recorder :)

Here's a basic formula...gather/creat samples...(figure this
one out by yoursefl! you'll thank me later, and your music
will be hella unique!)...Edit them with cool edit (personaly
i use sound forge) then arange them into loops, and patterns
with fruity loops, then secquence them (i use acid).

*IF* you have a keyboard that can use midid into your comp,
i sugest getting Native Instruments Reaktor! with this
proggy, you can literaly program your own instruments, EVEN
BETTER THAN RDJ! heh, but this is for more advanced
composers...i only wrote this to let you know it out ther,
and to let others on this board that i know what i'm talking
about, and iz tha shzinat!

oh, and just so ppl know...i DO plan on making some phatty
remixes of RDJ tracks...as a thank you for this bad ass
site, and the culture the IDM fans have created here...

*warning the tracks will be power electronic remixes, with
rave and IDM influence....basicly my personal style [coined
intellegent darkrave]*

i'm followin Autechre's style (yeah like that's possible) in
a way. it seems like FL is a top choice among musicians
here. it's fun tweekin with AudioMulch on the VST plugins in
real time, which i'm unaccostomed to on software. CoolEdit
is my top choice, & i use Stomper for synthesizing drum
sounds and tones.
i'm a sucka for pure synthesis, so it probly wont b an easy
take 4 me.

i should try & play around with those programs u suggested
man, thx.

cheers

so the fractal outputs midi files? why is this desirable?
what does it do that other normal programs dont?

cool edit is lovely most definetly. its the most important
part of my music cause it allows me to throw the drums
around like mad. fruityloops is my main loop maker. cool
edit tweaks them and reverberates them(and much else) orion
pro organizes them.

Buzz is cool...

& AudioMulch has so so so many possibilties....great for
producing real non-linear stuff you can then edit using the
standard progs (wavelab. cooledit etc..)...

Have you looked into CSOUND or any of the other highend
IRCAM stuff...

A huge amount of very serious artists use this stuff
especially in the academic & electro-acoustic fields...

I believe it's free as well....

Audiomulch is my main weapon along the side of FL and some
other things.

Use Madtracker. It's easy-to-use(you can use it even if
you don't know ANYTHING about making music, and learn stuff
as you go).

Just remember to get some *.mod, *.xm, *.xi (and so-on)'s
with that for instruments(unless you plan on recording your
own)
