should a person be arrested for asking what is, in your opinion, a "stupid question", after the speaker has indicated that he wants to hear the question?
I still don't understand why you guys think the cops being involved at all is justified

He wasn't being arrested for what he was saying. In fact, when the cops got involved he probably was not being arrested at all.
His mic was cut because he was breaking the format of the event, by ranting, and taking up more time than he was aloted.
The cops got involved to escort him out for not leaving the mic.
He was arrested for resisting the cops, fighting to get away from them, and trying to bust through them to get back to the mic.
He was tazed so that he could be subdued and cuffed.

So what? Why do the police need to get involved?
Why not, as johnl said, let the guy run out of steam (since kerry had already indicated he wanted to hear the question, the whole "breaking the format" thing isn't so relevant) and then answer the question with a short response and then let everyone go?
Why not do that?

The organizers probably asked the police to escort him out.
Why not let him talk as long as he wanted? Because the event organizers probably wanted more than one audence member to get the chance to speak, I guess.
How long should they let him keep lecturing? The event organizers probably wanted him to quit so they could move on to the next person.
Kerry wasn't the event organizer though, so he didn't have the final say over the format, I guess...

The last question had already been asked before this guy started asking his question. So everyone else had already gotten a chance to speak. This is the only way in which I see that he broke with the format. His question wasn't even long. A long question is 4 minutes' worth. Usually the waffle in such questions doesn't have anything to do with the question itself. Everything this guy said was related to his question.

Jeez
"It's the proprietor of the establishment's prerogative as to
whether he wants to allow this sort of behavior."
This was a political event. Politics isn't some inside club where only certain people are allowed in; the area of politics affects all citizens from the corporate executive to the death-row convict (wait, that might not be too much of a distance). By that reasoning, if all the candidates arranged their own events, they could evict anyone who asked a critical question, including the media. The prerogative in this case isn't on neither Kerry nor the school, but on any citizen who wants to ask a question; it's their prerogative to question their political personnel, and it's their duty to be critical. If this was some nazi guy, you'd be outraged at them throwing anyone who asked critical questions out.
" I don't understand what thrashing about on the floor and shouting until they tasered him into submission achieved."
It achieved this. We're discussing it, it's on the news, even here in Norway, everyone are reacting to it. He believed he was being treated unfairly, and that the police were out of line (they were). Police authority only holds as long as the police are within their actual public sphere. If a police man violates the law or the bounds of his position, he ceases, in that case, to be a police man, and forfeits the powers that come with that position.
That the police use the fact that he didn't resist arrest when there weren't cameras around, and that he may very well only be in it for publicity, doesn't mean he doesn't have a point, and that only struggling when there are cameras doesn't have a point; if you're being beaten in a cell with only the man who's beating you, struggling doesn't make as much sense as if someone's there to see it or help.

"That's just a load of bollocks. All of us would struggle and
shout."
Not really. I, for instance, am so much of a pacifist that I would merely have sat down on my knees with my hands on my head while trying to finish my question. There are many ways to go about something like that.
"Anyone see the old chap get arrested under terrorism charges
shouting a question at a Labour conference last year?"
No. Link?
"The questions student jackass really asked weren't serious ones: they amount to, "Mr. Kerry, were you complicit in some scheme to get Bush into power?" and "Are you a member of a sinister global elite that rules from the shadows?""
However unlikely, if it was true, it is indeed a really serious issue, and on that should be addressed. It was quite simply posed as a question, Kerry could've answered, but instead some cops decided they'd arrest the guy.

I've had my eye on these new world order 'conspiracy' theories, and have watched like 5 of alex jones videos and read most of this. The only problem is that I also read about memetics which is the loose theory that information replicates from brain to brain/book/etc as selfish bits using genes as an analogy. So religion and cults and scientology are memetic illnesses, like false information that replicates simply because it is successful at replicating. These new world order memes as largely spawned by alex jones might be true; either that or some scientologyesque crap, albeit a more successful strain of memes since it does not contain rediculous information about aliens. Well actually look at that david icke's theory about reptilian humanoid politicians... The nwo 'conspiracy' theories rely heavily on information you have to take for granted (given it claims nearly all media is controlled). Either its an ill memeplex that nestled itself into quite a defensible crevice, or possibly mostly or partly true. If its true it seems that a monarchy/dictatorship is humans natural political system and it tends to drift that way even if something like democracy impedes it for awhile. The future forecast of the 'conspiracy' theories is quite grim and makes you think. First of all they take HALF (about) of everyone's paycheck and the irs is set up as an obvious con with tactics. So nobody can be richer than them. With that they can buy into the biggest corporations like google, you know, those people who plan to organize all the worlds information. I'd guess certain traits are required to get to the top like ruthlessness (standard oil), so I'd guess we should assume such individuals are largely at the top. What the fuck ever. Humanity will crumble one way or another.

a lot of people allude to humanity as a vampire secretly in charge of a blood-bank. that's a meme yea? it's probably been around for centuries too...maybe even millenniums? in a sense humans do kind of feed off each other..and the elite do do that the best. david jones and alex icke are 100% right on everything

I sure don't believe the lizard stuff. That information replicates from its entertainment value I'd guess. But the nwo conspiracy theory is so good that it can make the further claim that david icke's zany theories are a deliberate attempt by the rockefeller complex to drown out the real theories to make them seem as bogus. Like religion takes this stuff 'behind the scenes' that we can't really prove like god/etc and molds their brainworms from it. Well nwo theories similarly have stuff behind the scenes like the motives of people I've never personally met, and you can't really prove that all the media is controlled. One source of information (the conspiracy theory) is claiming the other source of information is bogus. It's not like I mingle with the rockefellers or people from the cfr on a daily basis so I'm completely in the dark especially since information sources about them may or may not be bogus. So in that respect it is similar to religion/cults/memes, but it might also simply be the factual situation.

I think David Icke is popular because his theories are entertaining, like that film, "They Live". If he was talking about really dry, serious political issues without any of the lizard perts, nobody would give a shit.
And now former British M15 agent David Shayler is on a similar tip to Icke:
