can anyone recommend me a user friendly, windows-based
software that is fast and has great functionality? i like
final cut, sadly it's mac-only...
vj-ing is secondary... i mainly need it for intuitively
editing found media video clips...

haven't tried premiere cs3 yet... any good?

i use Adobe Premiere Pro professionally. i really like it
and it seems to be very much much like Final Cut Pro. in
fact i think its Adobe's answer to Final Cut.

i've actually got a lot more experiance with Premiere than
Final Cut, so yeah i say get it.

okay i'll give it a spin... last premiere i had was 6.5
which didn't even have a proper preview function and a
terrible GUI.... while Final Cut had this nice way of non
destructively handling clips...

if you want 5 times the control go for after effects, but
it'll take you a while longer to get your head around.

i'd like to know of some real time vj software. could be
fun.

the only thing i like about premeire is the snap too thingy
when you drag and drop video parts, its fast... after
effects works in a different way,you make layers and layers
and layers and layers ...ect ect ect...premiere if i
remember, you only have what? 3 or 4 tracks?? and you have
to line it all up on those tracks and crossfade between them
.

im talking from 3 or 4 years back. ive never needed to
upgrade

using 3ds max and after effects. seems like all i'll need
for a while. tho i miss lightwaves dynamics.

blah blah blah.

me guesses that after effects is pretty much the shit for 2D
animation once you get the hang of it?
hmm to me the most important thing right now would be nice
controls over the very basic editing functions... a kind of
sampler-like approach for video clips would be awesome...
guess something like that could be found in vj-software...
don't know what to look for actually 8/

premeire is still very high quality " if you do it right and
choose the right settings ect.)

im just thinking along the lines of control and options.

if you want to make wedding movies and things like that get
premiere. if you wanna make ambient multi layered visual art
get after effects.

my friend made the mistake .and got stuck into premiere just
to try out video on his PC, then when he tried to come out
and upgrade to AE he found it very hard and stayed with
premiere.
because the UI(user interface) is quite different even tho
the terminology is kinda the same.

I would suggest spend a few more hours ...i'm literally
talking 2 0r 3 hours on the first night and the next and do
things in a seriously pro way.

but hey you can use both ....premeire for simple stuff and
then AE when you wanna go deeper.

all the help files are there.

try it before you buy.

but like i say im from the past maybe 2 oe 3 years back.
things must have changed , there must be thousands of progs
out there now.

good luck.

Steinberg used to sell a midi controlled video editor,
asigning videos to midi notes, remember it?
Shame they didn't develop it more.

hmm thanks! hah, what comes to mind when you say try before
buy... a fellow student actually phoned adobe support to ask
if they would mind if he would use warez serialed adobe
products... the lady on the phone told him they wouldn't see
it as a problem at all as long as it's not used
commercially... nice!
