Just got the vinyl; it'll be good to get rid of the fucking mp3s! Been loving this album for a while now.. beautiful music! Simple and minimal! A good recommendation for all! One thing, though.. the mp3s never really said the name of the album, but as it's 2nd, it's got me thinking there could be a 1st? If so, is it as sweet or sweeter than this and how is its availability on vinyl (or CD if that's the only medium for it?)? For those who don't know this release: . It's an Alva Noto / Opiate collab. |

the first was released on raster noton, but doesn't follow the same naming convention as the second. i thought it was long out of print, but apparently the raster noton site doesn't say it's out of stock. this is more alva noto than opiate i think, as opposed to 2nd. all very 'nice' music, in the same way as all of his stuff has been for ages i suppose. i wish there'd be more noto now and less alva noto now though. fades seems really interesting and a nice change from all the alva noto stuff, but getting hard to come by already it seems and of course quite expensive... |

well, at least how i understand is that carsten nicolai used to release stuff under the noto name (much more abstract and 'academic', i suppose you could say, than alva noto) that was to do with his more serious ideas of sound (and not necessarily music). he started to do more 'poppy' kind of stuff (with conventional rhythm, 'beats' and even melodies) and so to keep it separated from his more 'serious' stuff made the name 'alva noto' and released it under that. his alva noto stuff seems to sell quite a lot and of course appeal to a much more general audience, so he's released loads of stuff under that name the past few years and hardly any more 'serious' noto stuff. fades seems to be one of the few recent things not related to alva noto though and as i say seems interesting as a change from his 'nice' alva noto music that gets a lot of attention just because it sounds 'nice'. is i think one of the best things he's been involved in that i know of, a collaboration between Ø and 'noto'. but he's not released much stuff of this sort for quite a while. |

I'm glad you liked it! It's funny, kanossagang are from Bergen, I know them, but I'm pretty sure you understand more of what they're singing about than I do... Made anything new? I'm on the lookout for good new stuffs! |
