i had a bit of a moment last week, when i was heading out
to catch a train.

my place is next to a kindergarten, i head down a path that
leads behind my house to get to the station. the path runs
down the side of a grass play ground, which backs onto some
low lying bush with tough, spiny ferns; eucalyptus trees,
and blackboy plants.

anyhow it was about 10am, and as i walked down this path i
saw 6 or so toddlers standing as a group in the bushy
section. one of them kept falling over. they talked together
in their toddler-speak.

i pictured myself as one of those kids, imagined the scene
through their eyes, for me the situtation was like a kind of
a safari, an adventure.

as i continued on to the station i found myself in a great
mood. i reflected on this later when i has my dad over for
dinner, and i described this scene to him.

he told me that i should write, granted, that half of it
would be bollocks that most people would find hard to
understand; but also he said i had a way with words, and a
certain way of looking at things.

so yeah when it occurs to me i try to put myself in the
place of someone else. so often we apportion the wrong
sentiments to other people, because we misunderstand or
misperceive what it is like to be in their place. yet
sometimes the answers can be so easy to know.

why not audio record it... add some manic drums all cut up
and reversed etc and call it future folk. The story has got
that sorta down home vibe that is just screaming for a HHat
crash and cut up vocals or something

yeah i should sit down next to someone spinning drum and
bass records and read from my book. i could be the
kerouac for a new generation.

The person I used to be tried that once. I looked through
the eyes of some stranger (the person who I am now). And
through his eyes I looked back at myself, who was in a
helpless other-person-eye-looking-through trance, with a
desire to kill. Which of course I did and here I am today as
the stranger.

thats exactly right though. if i know that my emotions are
getting the better of my judgement, and that im behaving
irrationally toward another person, then i find looking at
myself through their eyes to be really sobering.

I met an Australian that looked like this...a
wrinkled face and leathery skin. Sans the crocodile of
course.

I wonder what I would see throught the eyes of Paul Hogan.
Hmm...

Write a t.v. cartoon series called, maybe, Rugrats,
based on your experience!

The co-composer on Rugrats is also Wes Anderson's
film composer of choice (e.g. The Life Aquatic)

It's part of empathy. Many people lack this ability, and
they mostly vote for right-wing parties.

I heard (from an American), that the U.S.A. is so corporate
these days that there is an absolute lack of compassion and
empathy: this source reported to me that a person was three
cents short in a store and was not let off with it: this was
right after I was twenty pence (sterling) short at a shop
because I'd left my change in my other trousers; the person
serving me took twenty of their own pence from their own
pocket, saying "It's fine, I have twenty pence right here."
I gave much thansk and departed the scene, buoyed by the
compassion show to me by this stranger.

Haha, wtf, three cents? That's nothing! Get your act
together America!
