Anyone know of any good software developer message boards
?
All the ones I have been finding are shit. I`d like to find
a small community like XLT.

I don't but this guy I know, Google, does.

All you have to do is search for programming terminology or
concepts you're interested in, plus words like 'pickles',
'wolfman', etc. That will give the results that extra xlt
zing.

What kind of software are you interested in developing? If
you want to make games, GameDev.net is an ok site to start
with. Their forums are pretty noob friendly.

But really, learning to program is a long road, and no one
is really going to help you with anything substantial on a
message board. MBs are generally only good for getting quick
questions answered. Your best bet is to do self-directed
learning. Read tutorials, read books, hack around, do it
yourself.

One thing not to do, is just read a book or tutorial from
start to finish, trying to sponge up tons of information.
Instead, I think you learn more if you start with a goal,
like say writing a text-mode guess the number game, and then
try and find the information required to meet the goal.

And good luck! I've been programming for about 15 years and
I still learn new things all the time. Programming can be
rad when you make stuff happen, but usually that's preceded
by a lot of head scratching and going "wtf?".
