live at the berlin philharmonie, 1970

just picked up this mad 2-cd recording. i went out looking
for something to buy (as you do on a day off), and found
this, with two of my favourite jazz musicians, who i hadnt
heard in collaboration.

fantastic purchase, im a happy camper.

Dave Brubeck is pretty decent. Haven't heard Mulligan, I
think, but I suck at names. Will check it out.

well, ive enjoyed this very much. i would liken brubeck to
fine dining, then describe mulligan as something more raw,
yet still very romantic, much like french bistro style
cooking. its a worldly sound, a very different entity to the
dave brubeck quartet.

knowing a bit about mulligans background as well, how he
went off the rails in a simliar way to chet baker after they
split from the chet baker quartet, helps me appreciate this
recording as something mature and wise.
