What's it like? I'm listening to Clipper now, but haven't
really heard anything else... and I have it ordered... I
know it's probably considered Autechres best overall by most
people, but what's it like overall?

It's Tri Repetae + Garbage + Anvil Vapre

In fact, I prefer Garbage and Anvil Vapre alone. :)

If it's there best I'm not ever gonna be a big fan, cause
thats all I have by them. It an awesome album though...

it's been a long time since i've heard it, but theres good
stuff on it. Anvil Vapre on disc 2 is what i've liked best
on it. Garbage was boring but lots of people seem to feel
that vletrmx21 (last trac on Garbage of disc 2) is
phenomenal.

Do you think Tri is their overall best album? If not which?

offline ggloom from California (United States) on 2002-03-20 00:57 [#00131776]

i think Tri Repetae is definitely their moodiest album. it's
really dark in a dramatic sort of way

i like tri++ a lot (2nd disc more) but i don't see why
vletrmx21 seems to be a favourite of everyone and a
masterpiece for all, i think it's beautiful and very good
but not that much after all

offline TrevorGod from Toronto (Canada) on 2002-03-20 02:20 [#00131875]

I think Tri is probalby their best album. Although LP5 is
right up there with it. But since Tri Repetae++ has the 2
ep's added on it's just an amazing value.

It took me about 10-15 listens to really appreciate
Tri-Repetae. Only after repeated listens do you tend to
notice the subtle changes in texture and rhythm.
Now I'm having a hard time stopping.

Nothing like bringing back old posts.

tri repetae++ is 1337, i own it. i think my favourite track
on it is probably eutow on disc 1. enjoy. you will not be
disappointed

offline alnuit on 2003-07-24 12:10 [#00792321]
Points: 1113 Status: Lurker

I feel that Tri-Repetae has a very dark stylish noir feel to
it...not a very Ae thing going by most of their other
work...it is almost a self-conscious work of art...and it is
for that very reason..inspite of its being a piece of art,
that I rate it beneath most other Ae work...

That said...the most disliked Ae record is about 2 gazillion
billion times better than the average run of the mill
by-the-numbers techno tracks that get made by the dozen.

still my favortie autechre release.. it's almost nostalgic
for me to listen to it these days.

I don't like it much, but I agree with Alnuit in that it's
got a really sharp style. And I like the sound... but the
melodies and beats that I look for just aren't there.

++ is much better, of course... any release with Vletmrx21
on it has a huge advantage.

tri repetae [--] was the first ae i've heard....and one of
the greatest for me...
pachi: garbage is not boring...it's great...

This topic doesn't die until I say so... ;)

Tri Repetae ++ was my first exposure to Autechre (and "IDM"
in general). The thing that caught me off-hand at first
listen was how RUTHLESSLY precise the beats were. They
weren't ordinary techno beats either, they were upgraded
into cold, mechanically streamlined measures that gave off a
sharp, focused sound. Add to that some amazingly warm
melodies; contrasting, yet complementing the beats
structured around them. First listen through, I was hooked
and on my way to a larger musical world (and becoming
hopelessly addicted to Autechre's sound).

tri rep++ sounds like the soundtrack to a detached abstract
sci-fi movie (that has probably never been made but perhaps
should). Maybe a modern 2001, even the soundtrack to that
film worked because of the contrast to the rest of the film
rather than because of the association.

yeah, it's my least favorite album of theirs by far...
everything else they've done appeals for me a lot more!

I do prefer the melodies of Amber the best. There is
something hypnotic and moving about Tri though - there isn't
anything out there like it.

Tri Repeatae is the best piece of music ever made . . ...
.. imho

with the possible exception of some classical pieces that
are unsurpassable quality wise.. I mean, it's tough to say
it beats Bach, for example.. but you know

Anvil Vapre might just be the best EP ever made
