Existentialism

I was just wondering how many people here get existential
thoughts and feelings sometimes?
I used to get them a lot and would contemplate everything,
but lately I almost never do. It's all about the moment and
the stuff I do and can actually touch and see and hear now.

Do any of you feel existentialism is useless or can it help
a person at least gain a (maybe) false sense of
understanding?

just a phase in puberty.

And a field of study in philosophy.

try to do something with it

Not really. The study of existentialism goes far beyond the
teenage years of angst; I wouldn't do it if it was just some
masturbatory exercise for me as I believe I have an
obligation to try and research important things.
Existentialist studies branches into many other fields like
politics, psychology, ethics, social studies, etc. Basically
anything that deals with humans. You should try reading up
on it beyond a wikipedia article.

in that case you're obviously lost. perhaps you should try
reading up on some existentialist works if you haven't
already. starting with the wiki, of course. (thanks for the
tip DM!)

I've tried philosophy, I've tried other things, but at the
end of the day what makes one happy, I've realised, is a
spliff, some baileys, and a copy of "Okami" on the good old
PS2. Beautiful, yes.

And then you should remember youur obligation to society.

godel: either you're trolling, in which case I'm sorry I
ruined it, I just didn't have the time, or you're serious,
in which case you haven't read or understood modern
existentialist research. In either case, there's benefit in
you reading it and understanding it.

Certain points of Existentialism I use as tools; personal
responsibility and personal choice.

Like any system, why adhere to it? It's someone else's, not
your own; utilise those ideas which resonate & develop your
own personal system; who wants to be a cheap mass produced
paperback novel?

Most of what you adhere to is someone else's anyway, but
it's true that what you can't translate to your own life,
when it comes to that part of existentialism, doesn't matter
much.

Also, I command you to produce more tunes like parallax-15!

You like that track? I think it had a companion (I seem to
make pairs of tracks quite often), cos it was one of my
fictional game soundtrack numbers :]

existentialism is more of a historic term for the movement
in philosophy - now a days you can only be an existentialist
- meening you accept the ideas of the movement.

essentially we have moved forward or evolved past
existentialism.
