Hi, using FL7 with N.I. Massive and percussion hit samples,
I made a cover version of one of my favourite (and most
moving) songs, Partisan as sung by Leonard Cohen.

"It rolls ominously along, sucking you in" - L. Cohen.

please enjoy and comment

Good one, but you could increase the volume of the
instrument doing the main melody/vocal line. Also, you
should have sung on it.

THANKS FOR THE LISTEN - I SERIOUSLY TOYED WITH DOING A VOCAL
VERSION -- MAYBE THERE WILL BE ONE!! THE MELODY WAS LOUDER
JUST BEFORE MASTERING, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO DISTRACTING,
SO I MELLOWED IT A LITTLE BIT :]

The chords were really obvious and in your face given their
fast repetitive speed. Maybe if that part was more
subtle/quiet/backgroundish. Way better than what I can do.
How do you enter notes in fl, manually by clicking or by
playing the notes on a keyboard while recording then
repositioning the ones the didn't snap to the grid very well
or something?

I PROGRAM THEN IN NOTE BY NOTE... SOME PEOPLE WILL PLAY WITH
THEIR MIDI KEYBOARDS AND THEN MAYBE QUANTISE THE NOTES FOR
TIGHTNESS. NOT ME. I LIKE TO PROGRAM NOTE BY NOTE COS IT
GIVES ME TIME TO THINK.

You should program in note by note and then play it
afterwards when you have it all down; can't beat that human
touch.

I want software where you:
1) sing something
2) it knows what pitch all the notes you sing in and
positions the notes tracker or fruity loops style in a
timeline
3) you can then swap out the wav files of your shit voice to
any wav/instrument instead.

Next up will be a cover version of Berlin's Take My
Breath Away
. I've started working on it already.

hm, goddamn that progression and melody is some of the most
beautiful stuff ive heard.
i think your sounds help the melody and progression along
very nicely, and it sounds very right.

i dunno what to say cept i loved it, will dl original now.

yea so i like but it drags on too long and it could

Lenny Cohen version [mp3]

· big - yes, that was a long time ago; my brother &
I resolved our differences and he now lives & works at
Longleat in south England (it's featured on a BBC2 show). He
recently became a father for the second time (not with my
sister-in-law, they're separated and she still lives up
here).

Cohen is good shit.. I have I'm your man album on vinyl, and
I keep thinking I should order the other ones when I go to
the store, but there's so much I have to order.. I'm going
to get some Serge Gainsbourg next.. I don't have his stuff
on vinyl.
