Just got an email back, saying he might only "move 500 to
700 vinyls..which doenst even cover the cost....mp3s arnt
very romantic..but they are the future"
Maybe, but there is also nothing wrong with the past.

I might have known YOU would be in here, with your wilful
abuse of the apostrophe, my Moriarty!

I have received an email assuring me that his staff has been
sacked.

outtake

I wouldnt be surprised if several other semi-major artists
follow suit. It's not like people can't already
self-publish, but labels at least provide some type of
litmus test for a lot of the crap that is out there in the
net-label / self-publish online world.

I guess Cylob has already sharpen his teeth on the
label-thing, as he already has a reputation. As for a lot
of lesser knowns with stars in their eyes, we'll see what
happens when some of these labels fold.

It seems Cylob might realize this is the best way to make a
little money, since so much can be spent / lost in the
physical production of an album. Vinyl collectors might be
pissed though. At the very least, I hope if this is the
only "medium" he relases in now, he also chooses FLAC.

It's kind of a smart guerilla marketing tactic. In one
regard, it will likely just assure p2p free acquistion of
his tunes. In another, it will get his name out there even
more. He might get larger gigs (where he could make more
money) or his reputation may land him a deal in the
Entertainment Industry, doing more pro-music shit as an
actual career...

Smart guy.

It would be great if acknowledged artists started publishing
their own music, and then used their reputation to serve at
protegés for more unknown artists.

I like Cylob's music a lot but the sounds he uses don't like
them so much. I hate the whole range of brrrrmm-aauuum,
kaavuum-um, baoummm-ummmmrphhh... They didn't sound that
great back then and I can't believe he thinks this "sound"
is promissing enough to continue developing all these years.
I say it's time to reinvent the Cylob sound for the future.

I hope rephlex isn't going under anytime soon. They
probably can't justify pressing cylob material for the
obvious reasons...its rubbish. I don't mean to be down on
the guy...he's written his own software via SC...has a few
great tracks but most of the stuff he's released this decade
aside from the cylobotnia stuff has
been...very...dull/predictable (totally with you Sano)

rephlex going under.....certainly not from lack of sales, im
thinking rdj alone keeps warp happy w/releasing his records

rephlex is a business, they (rdj/grant) arnt stupid
well they might be, but i doubt it.
