Heres the 'results' from last nights post. I don't see any
pattern like I was hoping for, but tell me what you guys
think/see.

Basically the way it's set up is showing what IDM artist
relates to what non-IDM artists based on what people posted.
Top 3 are obviously Autechre, Aphex Twin and BoC, in that
order.

Here we go:

Aphex Twin -> Nirvana, Tim Hecker, Motorpsycho,
Thelonious Monk, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Black
Sabbath, Sex Pistols, The Beatles, Radiohead, Tuxedomoon,
Valentin Silvestrov

Autechre -> Nirvana, Tim Hecker, Motorpsycho, Tangerine
Dream, The Emperor Machine, Goblin, The Beatles, Radiohead,
Pinback, Mogwai, MF Doom, Tuxedomoon, Valentin Silvestrov,
Talking Heads, The Fall, Joy Division

Squarepusher -> Nirvana, Tim Hecker, Motorpsycho

BoC -> Thelonious Monk, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots,
Tangerine Dream, The Emperor Machine, Goblin, The Beatles,
Nirvana, Radiohead

Kim Hiorthøy -> Thelonious Monk, A Tribe Called Quest, The
Roots

Richard Devine -> Tangerine Dream, The Emperor Machine,
Goblin

Orbital -> Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, A Tribe Called Quest,
Joy Division, Radiohead, Miles Davis

The Orb -> Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, A Tribe Called Quest

Afx -> Kyuss, Buckethead, Death

Ae -> Kyuss, Buckethead, Death, pavement, angelo
badalamenti, mozart

Plaid -> Kyuss, Buckethead, Death

dopplereffekt -> pavement, angelo badalamenti, mozart

B12 -> pavement, angelo badalamenti, mozart

Mouse on Mars -> Pinback, Mogwai, MF Doom

Boards of Canada -> Pinback, Mogwai, MF Doom, Talking Heads,
The Fall, Joy Division

Future sound of london -> Joy Division, Radiohead, Miles
Davis

Burial -> Joy Division, Radiohead, Miles Davis

Pixel Magic -> Jackie Winters, Stark Bros, Service

Not if you look at the statistics: If that was true, then
the people who liked Autechre would also like the same bands
as the people who liked ae, but that simply isn't true based
on these empirical data. It's also quite astounding that the
people who like Aphex Twin don't like the same beans as the
people who like afx, but then the people who like afx like
the same bands as the people who like ae, so maybe afx=ae?
And BoC and Boards of Canada do not appear to converge
either. I am quite simply amazed at the new findings of this
immensely well-planned and well-executed survey.

The fact is to chart peoples taste in music as such, you
would need to start at the beginning and plot various points
in their life instead of starting in the middle and reaching
the end. Because the chance that no two people here started
listening to music in the same way at the same time in their
life to the same artists, the chance you will find patterns
is slim to none. I think its more random than can be
charted.

I mean you could be shown a certain artist on a day you are
having a bad mood, that you don't like because your mood is
already affected, and you decide to never listen to them
ever again. Had you been in a good mood, you find you really
liked it, they become your favorite band and impact your
taste in music for the next 5 years, so on and so forth.

Goldberg -> Jackie Winters, Stark Bros, Service

Haha! I just invented those band names from words on stuff
around the office. They don't even exist. So I guess this
proves that people who listen to non-existent electronic
acts also like other non-existent acts that aren't
electronic.

haha you guys need to calm down, i didn't organize the
'data' at all

i basically copy/pasted

my question, which i stated earlier: can i use this to do
anything cool/is there a reason to?

you answered the latter, apparently there isnt

i mean, i enjoy the whole aspect of the majority of you
being elitist assholes usually, but i seriously didn't even
claim to be doing anything

haha god damn

I've never bothered to check him out, but my Yamaha EX-5
Synth had a preset in one of the factory banks called "Jean
Michel." It was actually a really nice pad sound so I
figured he must not be too terrible.

Good sounds can be used to make bad music and vice versa.

Yeah, you're right, of course. Still, bad music with good
sounds is still better than bad music with shit sounds. I'm
not saying it's my first choice to listen to bad music with
cool sounds, but rather that Jean Michel and his ilk should
get the credit they are due, however little.

an xlt-pattern :

woofer poll -> toilet -> tridenti.

Yes. Well, somewhat. Bad music is bad music. It doesn't
matter whether or not BT uses a Hartmann Neuron and Poly
evolver, the sounds could be so good to shoot the third
world right past industrialization to space travel, its
still BT and he sucks anus.

Having said all that, I haven't listened to Jean Michel
Jarre. His music could be fantastic.
