MGS4

Anybody else really looking forward to the next Metal Gear
Solid game? It's looking likely that the game will be on the
360 too, which is nice. Means there's no need to get a PS3
(unless it shapes up a bit.)

I really hope Hideo Kojama has managed put his usual quirks
into MGS4, though (whatever may have been said in
interviews).

I'm playing through MGS3 again, and apart from its attention
to detail, what takes it beyond other action/adventures is
the humour, the dialogue (even saving the game is fun thanks
to the Paramedic) and the surreal nature of the foe you
encounter. I like how the MGS games are painfully self-aware
of the gaming medium and of their place in gaming. I find
other similar stealth games so po-faced and unimaginative
after playing through the bizarre twists of an MGS game. But
perhaps that's just me....

I certainly am not. I don't think I'd even pop it in once if
the game and system for it were given to me for free.

Hell yeah! I won't be able to afford a ps3, but I
will find a way to play this game!

My favorite series ever and MGS3:Subsistence was my favorite
game ever, so yeah I think I might give this game a try.
Indeed the series is just overloaded with imagination and
panache. It's almost shameless in the way it fuses so many
stylistic concepts into its framework. And thank god it
doesn't take itself too seriously. There's some gameplay and
control flaws they need to work on though.

yeah based on the videos and stuff this game looks like it
will be pretty awesome. loved all the previous ones. im also
one of those rare people that really liked the VR missions.
(also, its hideo kojima)

will borrow it.

yes, MGS4 does look good but i dunno if it will be coming to
360. however, kojima says he does like the 360 and has been
playing gears of war and that he wants to develop something
for the console.

I hope it's PS3 only so they can load the game with a
kajillion gigs of crap without having to span multiple
discs.

And free online, if indeed the online game is included.
Which it probably won't be until Metal Gear Solid 4-
Subordination

there's no chance i'm buying a ps3.

. . . unless mgs4 really ended up being exclusive to it.

Really looking forward to this. I don't know how much of the
11 minute trailer video I watched was in-game "playable"
footage, but it really does look incredibly well presented
either way. I don't think it will disappoint.

So far, at least, mgs4 is only listed as being for ps3.

Yeah. I think it turns out that it was just a rumour; but I
still wouldn't be surprised if it eventually made its way to
the 360.

I just bought metal gear portable ops, and its one of the
most dry, boring games I have played in a while.
Disappointed, because I have always wanted to try out one of
these metal gear games.

I haven't played it, but I bet it's not the best place to
start; it probably has more value to someone who knows the
series. I recommend you start with MGS1 (if you're not one
of those sad people who can't play a game just because "its
graphics are outdated!" (in which case you could maybe try
Twin Snakes for the gamecube?)) and then work your way up.

if you've cracked your psp you should be able to play for
first mgs on it...

thats probably the best option

I expect it will be on the 360, it will only be exclusive on
the PS3 for so long. It would be a silly business decision
not to do this. This game has an astronomical budget, why
limit sales to the PS3 when the 360 userbase is so big? It
just seems so logical, and Kojima's interviews have been so
ridiculously vague and non-committal.

I'm just worried about them gimping the PS3 version to make
the eventual porting process less painful. Take advantage of
all that storage space.

Will it even be possible? I mean, how large is mgs4? Could a
regular dvd handle it?

With all that speech (possibly even keeping the original
Japanese voices) and all the stuff they cram into MGS games,
I doubt it. Gears of War apparently pretty much maxed out
its single 9gb DVD.

But I don't think they'd hesitate to put it on 2 DVDs. I
don't know how much stuff they're looking to cram into there
but typically, Metal Gear games aren't huge and this one
doesn't look to be using super high res textures or
anything.

For reference, Blue Dragon 360 is going to be 3 on DVDs.
That's not so bad because it's an RPG. Taking 10 seconds to
change discs twice in about 80 hours isn't so bad. The
original Metal Gear was 2 CDs, and recently Resident Evil 4
was 2 discs, and it doesn't really hinder the experience.
I'm more worried about Grand Theft Auto 360, that's the kind
of game that the limited disc space could REALLY gimp,
because of the expansive way they're laid out.

They'd probably leave out the extraneous stuff like the
Japanese voice track. And this is assuming there won't be a
multi-player mode. I don't know how big the game is going
to, and I'm sure Kojima doesn't want to put it on the 360,
but cramming it on 2 or 3 DVDs is a good concession to make
if they want to make a profit. Because actually I don't
think they'd gimp the PS3 version anyway, no matter what. I
did Kojima's honor a disservice by even thinking of that.
:_-(

I don't think Kojima is all too interested in money, at
least not to the extent that he'd compromise anything, no;
you don't get games like that when you compromise. I also
think Konami knows that the best way to make money is to
actually let Kojima have his way.

Yeah it's pretty much confirmed, although no juicy info yet.
There was a funny interview a while back with Kojima talking
about it and how he would never let Uwe Boll anywhere near
it. He also mentioned that he wanted Sean Bean to play
Snake. Coincidentally, Snake looks EXACTLY like Sean Bean in
the MGS4 trailer.

I've never really liked any videogame movies, but they're
pretty inconsequential to a series' rep, so what the hell,
go for it. It could be interesting, if nothing else. Done
right, it would be a blast, but maybe a bit too weird for
the typical moviegoer.
