Clark is the future

I think where Clark is at the moment is one of the most
exciting times for electronic music. He has consistently
pulled out good material over the years and there has always
been a high interest in his work.

It's easy to make out he's the new Aphex Twin, but it is a
lazy comparison. I doubt anyone will be as groundbreaking
and inventive as Aphex for a while. But what Clark has
captured is Aphex's output during the mid to late 90's:
changing and evolving his sound, alot of reworkings of
original tracks, all with a subtle sense of humour and irony
(his remix for Milanese with the piss-take of Prodigy at the
start).

Clark ain't no Aphex, but he's an exciting prospect.

you should maybe lend an ear to some decent music some
time.
perhaps.

Clark is crap. Surely you get enough copy cats in these
'IDM' circles. what's the point? Does this aphex/amateur
market need to be filled? I don't think so.

It's funny how you pop-up once the name Clark has been typed
:)

There obviously is a market for Aphex inspired musicians...

that. stop the worshipping, fanboi.

Chris Clark made some decent stuff before, but I really
don't like his recent output at all.

Come on, he's hardly "amateur". Whether you like him or not
(I happen to really enjoy a fair bit of his music), I think
it's obvious he can produce well.

clarence.

Ted is a classic IDM dance song in my opinion. The
transition into Roulette Thrift Run is simply wonderful, as
if Ted continues but after a while you realize it's a
different song.
Also his live performance with a real drummer is ace!

Clark has yet to dissapoint me.

i absolutely love clarence park and empty the bones of you,
but his most recent output has left me somewhat lukewarm.

personally, i think if he had continued going where empty
the bones seemed to be headed he'd be a lot more "future"
than he is now.

offline xkejjer from Malta on 2007-05-27 15:48 [#02088110]

the future does not have a sound as such. if in a minute's
time i emit a fart, the sound of the future surrounding me
in five minute's time would be the sound of a fart.

I dislike clark, body riddle collects dust on my shelf. His
music sounds to me like he is trying hard to be many
different things, without any clear structure/direction, or
any genuine creativity.

Clark is very hit and miss but has produced some classic
tracks. He needs consistency as too much goes through one
ear and out the other, but I look forward to his releases
all the same.

the process of developing the atom bomb requires a lot of
smartness, yes. ethically stupid perhaps. but scientifically
still pretty damn clever.

and btw, those atom bombs may have saved us from WW3. who
knows.

It's not smart at all. Millions could do it if they applied
themselves. It's a shame that it only takes one sad berk to
devote his life to such a discovery, and then be so stupid
as to leave it in the hands of those who have spurious
intent.

i dont understand people hating body riddle but liking older
clark's stuff... i think its a natural evolution from empty
the bones, and i like it even more, like a consolidation of
the style...
another thing is not liking the direction he has taken after
the first amazing and varied clarence album... but loving
"empty..." and hating "body riddle" is like an incoherent
attitude to me... (if you dont agree, please explain!)

I quite like "Body Riddle", and I don't really like
"Clarence Park" (although it's got one or two nice pieces on
it.) I do think Empty the Bones is superior to "Body
Riddle", though; the tracks are more surprising, the ambient
sections are more unusual and dissonant, and it just seems a
little more daring overall. Even if it's not quite as
cohesive as "Boddy Riddle", I think it's just that bit more
imaginitive and unique.

I'm listening to empty now, and man, he had so many more
good ideas.
Listen to the melody on the first track, indigo, the only
one that comes close on body riddle is 'ted.'

holiday as brutality is still fucking brilliant.
umbilical is beautiful.

where are all the epic tracks on body riddle?
early moss.. cob goitus..

and i dont think i should even go on to clarence park.

the guy still has a lot of potential but his latest output
has been more 'ambient' and less 'melodic', which i think
people react to.
if you listen to body riddle, at least for me, i can't hear
as many rock solid ideas as the ones i mentioned above.

mmm thank you for the answers!
maybe i should relisten empty the bones of you,
but i remember it wasnt quite pleasant at my ears,
like if there were lots of good ideas,
but not clear structures,
amazing ambiances, but not a solid groove...
dont know really how to explain...
but thats what body riddle gave me.
and i also like when clark goes wild!
ceramics tunes being amongst my favourites
ohyes he played one of those the other day at sonar

as body riddle.
it's a matter of where you're coming from i guess..
