It's obviously going to be shit isn't it? They haven't made
a good album in ten years.

They released one good track when they were called the dust
brothers. Mainly shite since they changed their name to the
chemical brothers.

Never liked em and the new song doesn't inspire me to change
my mind, although it has some good ominous sounding passages
- I kept expecting it to kick in big style and it just
doesn't. Fair play though the video made me laugh a lot when
I saw it.

IMO - I remember at the time thinking their stuff is simple
pop music and still do.

you'll never get me to admit that chemical brothers is pop.
i enjoyed it far too much at a younger age of my life and im
not going to be trash talking their new shit for that same
reason.

i respect them aswell as i respect underworld, portishead,
prodigy, fatboy slim and massive attack for what they did to
me at that time of my life. without them i would probably
listen to indie now.

Music that is danced to by millions of people, designed for
the dancefloor is not pop? i know "pop" can have a bit of a
stigma attached, but well, too bad i guess...

anyhow that new single is godawful. but i'll still
unabashedly vouch for Dig Your Own Hole and it's many
brilliant dance pop choons.

i think you could skip fatboy slim's music. this guy has to
be punished for producing shitty tracks, especially for his
Pierre Henry Psyche Rock remix.

Points: 8603 Status: Lurker | Followup to Matvey: #02086190

why should i skip his music? he is as essential for my
development in music as chems are. mid 90's music, this was
my start of listening to the music that i do.

admittedly, the last few albums of fatboy slim has been
shite, but you've come a long way is still a nice album,
which i can still listen to on rare occasions.

i'm not arguing - from the point of someone's musical taste
development everything is ok, if the result is ok :)

i was just expressing my dislike for his music, using the
opportunity.

I recall the first time I was at a house party ('95 I think

spinning.

i bet you were listening to absolute shit music when you
were that age. get down from your pedestal, and start making
some sense. everybody listened to crap music at some point
in their life and honestly, i dont think fatboy slim can be
considered as crap.

He's fucking soul destroying. I don't know what age you're
talking about, but when I was a young teenager I mostly
listened to The Pet Shop Boys (up until Behaviour).

ha, yeah.... the pet shop boys are extremely well respected
for being innovative both musically & lyrically, while
Fatboy Slim is the British Moby, churning out bland
by-the-numbers shit which he hawks to the Agencies for
money.

That's the difference between Musical Artist and Musical
Hack.

i see you are challenging the fact that music taste is
subjective. which i really dont see why you would do.. a man
of your stature. anyways, i dont give much for pet shop
boys, never really liked any of their tracks - regardless of
how innovative it is. i enjoyed fat boy slim far more.

Well, you don't have to like the PSB's music to respect them
as musical artists with integrity. However, to enjoy Fatboy
Slim, you need abandon all dignity and integrity because he
has none himself. Fuck, the man has been featured in OK!
magazine for fuck's sake, doesn't that give the game away?

offline cuntychuck from Copenhagen (Denmark) on 2007-05-22 05:20 [#02086231]

i bet pet shop boys have been featured even worse places.

"you need abandon all dignity and integrity because he
has none himself"
i agree, but that somehow doesnt make his music worse
(untill recently).

well not a big Phut Boi Slum fan but do admire the freedom
he gives to his vid makers... hey Lord Christopher of the
Walkens features in one...he is mesmerising...the song is..I
admit..crap...
and as for Phut being UK's moby...I think it is the other
way around..moby is far more massive hack...taking Norman
Cook's one inept half baked idea..in the form of Praise
You..rushing to the record stores and pillaging an album
worth..of gospel and soul..on Play..
I mean..
ugh

Sorry man, I guess I'm just jaded with the state of most of
the electronic groups I used be into. The 'freshness' seemed
to be over its used-by-date for me, so I wasn't able to
appreciate their music anymore outside of that mindset to
hear new sounds. Technically its not bad music. It is
tempting to shun the past and get on my HIGH HORSE just
because I’ve long listened to recommendations on this
board (and thus listen to the best kind of music around).

Even the most hardcore fan of the Chemical Brothers back
when that big beat sound was huge and beyond
(Surrender was the shit!) won't be wasting their
bandwidth to hear this. I couldn't even get through 'do it

i'd hardly call it "norman cook's idea". i mean not that i
care to keep score on this one, but that song Standing in a
Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand by the Primitive
Radio Gods is both 2 years older and better. much better.
for example.
