Who here has used both for live mixing?
I was wandering what some of the pros/cons are for each. I know traktor has a rep for being crap at recognising real bpm's but from the interface it seems like it would be closer to mixing real vinyl, would i be right in presuming this? ableton is pretty smart with beats but falls to pieces on tracks with lost of swing of multiple bpms.
so can any one here be a give me bit of a run down? any info will be greatly appreciated.
peace

Ableton Live.
I can tell you now that that will be a much better piece of software because not only can you mix tracks, but if you decide to create or remix your own, you can do so either in a studio or even live.

the problem i'm having is that the warp markers can sometime be troublesome when a track swings a little, if it were vinyl i could easily just guide the record to catch up but once the markers are picking up the wrong tone of a song in ableton its all over.
i guess i'll just have to spend more time warping my tracks by hand.
Q: how do i cut a song up and save it as a new sample in ableton?
EG: I load say REMIX by AFX off 26MFC. And using the loop tool I seperate the first 2 bars so that the scratchy bouncy part just continues to loop. How do I then resave this isolated 2 bar loop as its own file so that next time I want it I can drag it from my folder without effecting my original file so that I may play play that too if I desire.
Sorry for the longwinded Q's.

yeah the Warp Markers can be a bit tricky to do with but they're usually alright.

what really sucks with traktor is that it can't handle two soundcards at once. the newer ones maybe can, can they, can they farbror melker?

virtual dj does, but it's a a bit shitty as well, but closer to virtual vinyl mixing, then with ableton.

Q: how do i cut a song up and save it as a new sample in ableton?
A: Go to Arrangement View. Put the part of the clip you want to make into its own clip somewhere on the timeline. Select it. Edit->Consolidate. Now that part is its own clip. You can cut-and-paste it back into the Session View if you like.

when you drag a clip into ableton and goto arrangement view and edit a sample you have, when your done editing the sample to you have to locate the edited sample and replace it or is there some faster way, cuz right now thats what i do after i cut up and audio sample, go in and re-drop it.

imagelines new deckadence looks pretty interesting. only for the vst support really but guaranteed it'll be a doddle to use. i would just really like good sounding scratches and a nice crossfader style. abeltons a bit too automated for me at the mo.

if only deckadance would also play .flp files, it would be more interesting and rising way above traktor, right now, it just seems to me like ANOTHER 'one of those mp3 mixing tools'.

oyvinto - you can use mutliple soundcards in ANY application usign Asio4All - even with older traktors.
actually calling it "djing" using ableton live is quite a joke for me.

Agreed.
B123: I expect he's using something else, I can't think of a way to easily scratch a sample on Ableton.
