I have an old Akai S01 sampler, only reads Akai format off
floppy, cant convert .wavs to Akai format (I had a program
to do this, but now it dosn't work with any of my
computers).

Can I transfer samples via midi? Is this possible? Am I
dreaming?

are you using AKAIdisk ?

If you're using WinXP turn the Win98 compatibility mode on
the AKAIdisk exe.

I've never tried a midi sample dump with any of my samplers
due to the time it would take.

Yes you can. It stores the sample as sysex data in whatever
sysex librarian you use. That said, it takes forever, so its
really not worth it.

So it is possible........ would cubase be able to do that?
would I need to write my own sysex message? i'm not sure
about this stuff.

No it's a feature of WinXP. Right click any program .exe and
go to the compatibility tab and choose the OS that the
program was written for.

still dosn't work.... i think modern (???) floppy drives
don't all work with akaidisk..........

cubase dosn't handle midi standard sample format for dumping
samples..........

anyone know a (free) program that does? something to
convert .wavs to midi standard sample format and then dump
them......

it's like i'm stuck between 1984 and 2007

OK. So what are you looking to do. I was talking about it
more from a storage perspective. Are you editing on your
computer, and then transferring over to your sampler?

If so, I might suggest that you get a scsi interface for
your computer, and have it connected to your computer. Then
you can just drag your samples from your computer into your
sampler without bothering to worry about disks and shit.

Don't ask me how to do that. I don't know how to do it, I
just know it can be done, because I know people that do it.

thats right.... or at least trying to....

if i can convert .wavs to the midi sample format, then
transmit them, via midi, to the sampler i will be happy :)

It works!!!!

CRAZY!!!

I've been trying to do this for years!!!

don't you love it when tech works for you?

I can now load samples that i have i have edited into my old
S01 and play them back with my Kawai q-80 sequencer. I
used to have to use the audio input to record samples. this
is so much better.

my sound pallet for live performance has just increased 1000
fold.
