In the event of a problematic situation, acceptance of it is
in no way the way of fixing it. Understanding it, yes, but
accepting it.. I mean, if you accept it, there's no reason
for fighting it. If I was faced by a killer and just went
"oh. ok, then," would that lead to me doing something to
prevent me being killed?

i dont think its right to call a person stupid because they
have different views, so i wouldnt take it that way. there
are many examples of stupid ideas, but holding them doesnt
make a person stupid.

so again, someone might act in such a way during a
discussion that confronts anothers ideas, but it is not that
confrontation that becomes a problem, so much as the
reaction of person being confronted.

going into a discussion expecting respect might even be a
bit much. respect shouldnt be a code, it should be something
understood in its nature; another example of compassionate
behaviour.

i guess were going in different directions here, i dont
equate acceptance with doing nothing.

I'm not sure if you read what I wrote right.. I mean that if
I were to take a compassionate attitude towards you
in a discussion, it would mean I thought you were a retard
that didn't deserve [etc...]. Compassion is not something
I'd want from my opponent. I'd want anger (engagement).

Then I think you're talking about realising. You have to
realise that the situation is what it is to be able to work
in, against and out of it, but acceptance implies not taking
prohibitive action.

i see what you mean. i guess we have a difference there, i
dont feel that anger is necessary in a process of
questioning. i wont argue whether it is or isnt the ideal
emotional charge for a face-to-face debate because i dont
have a lot of experience in that field. however there always
seems to be a lot of anger thrown about when i watch
parliament question time!

I disagree about banning Monoid. I think it's only justified
to ban a member on the basis of maliciousness or
cunningness, rather than by the sole deprivation of regular
social contact.

I'll admit, his frequent lamenting of still having virginity
can get tiresome, but has he actually inflicted deliberate,
personal harm upon anyone? Not that I'm aware of, in my five
years as an XLT member.

All I suggest is that he get more acquainted with the real
world, rather than confine all means of human communication
to within the boundaries of the world wide web.

"rather than confine all means of human communication
to within the boundaries of the world wide web."

I actually think he does have real friends, and isn't
suicidal, and isn't a virgin. It's probably all a joke. He
doesn't seem genuinely upset from my perspective at all.
It's all a wind-up.

I'd rather see phone banned than Monoid.

Also, is that Sun Ra? I've always wondered who that was on
your avatar.

Monoid is awsome.

Back when I first registered here he was a pretty normal
poster... he actually talked about music quite a bit.

One day he snapped and scribbled over his avatar and since
then every post he's made has been about his depression.

My favorite thing Monoid does is sometimes in the middle of
a thread he will play completey innocent... like "Why are
you saying these things about me?" or something like that.
That always makes me laugh.

I say ban Phone for this Monoid attack.

i love monoid - even though he mostly only posts about
depression its obvious he's a good guy with a charming,
childish vigilance about certain things --- (see: his racism
thread) he makes me smile

Monoid gets my 100% vote of approval. He gave me a invite I
needed to Gmail in the same thread I was taking the piss
with him, so he can't be that bad of a guy at all.
