Extreme capitalism and liberalism plus misunderstood
individualism.

And why do you think this anti-americanism is growing? Do
you think all the critique is unwarranted?

i personally feel all of europe should watch this
documentary. they might learn something. i did (and i
thought i knew it all)

just a trailer although the trailer doesn't really show
anything more than what most people already know. the
documentary does go deeper into the history and advent of
radical islam, speifically its military component...

What has that got to do with the critique of American
society?

well i think everything. people grab a particular incident
such as the Virg. Tech Massacre and generalize it or make
comparisons to our lives, our way of living, even towards
our current foreign policy. i find it interesting as an
american, that most europeans in this board, spend much more
time criticizing the americans. when americans themselves
are too preoccupied with their own problems to be
criticizing others. should americans really be concerrned
about european economic problems etc etc... probably not
because a) no lives are affected directly technically and b)
because its not our problem. i put up that trailer to
signify if not symbolize the struggle as americans towards
our way of life, but not just our own problems but that of
all europe and the middle east. Growing Anti American
Sentiment is simply due to our current foreign policy, in
which all of europa-middle east find to skew in a way and
have it become a western dysfunction. extreme capitalism.
what is extreme capitalism? no one is forced to put up a
business in this country. no one from the u.s. tells
foreigners to cross the mexican border and attempt to carry
on a monetarily preoccupied lifestyle. Even if you disagree
with the Iraq war, liberalism or the liberal left is
currently trying to disengage us from a war that has become
a quagmire. americans are far from perfect, but if someone
has answers instead of accusations and character
assassinations, then i believe more can be done. i'm sure we
as americans can learn something from europe because we have
much more in common than other nations. but why so much hate
when there are far more worse things in the world.

Nah.

First of all, we aren't grabbing a particular incident, but
due to the nature of things as they are now, something like
a school shooting doesn't "last" very long; our attention is
drawn elsewhere. This shooting reminds us of the
other shootings, and in discussing this one, the others are
implied.

Secondly, part of the critique, at least for me, is exactly
the point you're making, that "Americans themselves
are too preoccupied with their own problems to be
criticizing others.
" You live in a mock society where
everyone (and thus no-one) is an INDIVIDUAL!!! and
the only thing that make you stand together is some sort of
a crisis; In the context of a terrorist attack, everyone is
united, but in the context of work, advancement, social
issues, it's "to each his own," and "I don't care where
you're born, if you don't make it, it's your own fault!"

This also goes for your further points about Americans being
concerned about European issues "should americans really
be concerrned about european economic problems etc etc...
probably not because a) no lives are affected directly
technically and b) because its not our problem.
"

Do you really think no lives are affected directly by
economical problems? Do you really think it isn't your
problem? Are you aware of what would happen to the worldwide
economy should the American economy fail? Are you aware of
what would happen to the worldwide economy (and thereby also
American economy) should the European economy fail? Does
open trade with South Korea actually benefit America,
Korea or Both?

Extreme capitalism is capitalism applied to everyday living.
It's shown in the demands for what's socially accepted and
what's expected of "successful" individuals. Kids are an
investment in the future.

And if you think I should be spending my energy critiquing
other things, I do. I have more than enough energy to
criticise every living individual on the entire planet.

i think you made some valid points. i'm just glad i got a
say in something for once with being completely attacked : )
there are some things i'm sure at least socially we agree
upon. i do find us as a nation to be preoccupied with
finances and like you said the rudimentary belief of
burgeoning 'successful individuals' is somewhat of a
problem. in reference to the recent shooting even the young
south korean student found money that others had stifling
(although i'm sure most of the problem had to do with his
own mental disorder).

The thing with a mental disorder, though, is that it doesn't
arise magically within the individuals own psyche. It's a
result of his interaction with society around him, and,
American society, as a result of this "economic" take on
life, is a sort of breeding ground for neurotic lives. I
think that in this case, it could be described by (clichéd)
analogy to the tensioning of a rubber band up until the
point where it eventually snaps; Even if the final twist is
the direct cause of the snap, it wouldn't be as severe if it
hadn't been for all the previous ones.

this is all vague what i'm about to say but i think the idea
is understandable...

the case of the relationship between the individual and his
environment is something i wouldn't even know how to begin
analyzing. i can barely make sense of each particular event
in my daily life. i try at least mentally to carry on the
most happy and meaning filled life i can. i do believe, as i
have in the past couple of years, that life is too complex
to find a true meaning for it. what i do have a problem is
when otheres impose a belief on others, and i guess that can
be looked at in different perspectives. i am a true believer
in freedom, but to a certain extent. as to how those
freedoms are regulated, would be, an extremely complicated
system of impositions by whats considered 'the norm' or
'best for its people', an everlasting problem that may never
come to any definitive function. because as much as masses
of agree upon something whatever that is. at the end we are
all individuals. now as common sense this all may sound, it
pretty much sheds light as to why i can't say for a fact
what variables exactly led upto this event. i mean i can
keep going at it but whats the point, at the end i know i
wont find a definitive answer. what i can surmise is that he
had something that liberated him from mortality.

well what i'm trying to say is that, whether it is al qaeda,
sunni insurgents, criminals, or what have you. they do not
abide by the normal rules of warfare. especially when the
ratio of direct confrontation to u.s. troops to that of
innocent civilians is for the most part disproportionate.
i'm not saying you're wrong. i am only stating what the
rules are (rule of law), because you mentioned giving them a
fair trial...

A huge majority of the people kept in Guantanamo were simply
farmers herded up by the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan,
since the US was paying them for each and every detainee.

It was like slave trading, only even more sordid.

Well, I've known plenty of wonderful Europeans in real life
and I will hold on to those memories instead of cloud my
judgment through interactions with anonymous cunts I meet on

America over the Internet. Id rather it be over a couple of

This Tech shooting, from the looks of it, has nothing to do
with America other than the fact it was fairly easy for him
to buy a gun. He was insane. His imaginary girlfriend, too.
I chalk this one up as a crazy person undiagnosed.

When someone with severe psychiatric ills snaps over here in
the UK, and they become actively murderous (not very often),
the schizo usually stops with killing the person they feel
wronged them, and maybe sometimes a couple of members
of the family, too; they don't really go about and gun down
multiple strangers in a rampaging manner: the UK has only
really got 2 famous examples: Hungerford & Dunblaine.

Plus, if he was undiagnosed, why had he spent time in a
loony bin?

Also, 30,000 people a year are killed in gun-related crime
in the USA yet what's being done about it? What the fuck do
you think is going to happen if you give your citizens the
right to bear arms? This isn't the 1880s, I think it would
be safe to disarm the citizenry, and I would sure bet that
the death-toll would fall.

also, the firearms industry generates such revenue that i

I may be a bit behind with the news, as my primary sources
