Music file RULES

offline Sclah from Freudian Slipmat on 2007-04-11 16:17 [#02071277]

The only correct way to store music files is in this
format:
Artist - Release Name (Year)\TN - Artist - Track
title.ending

If it's a remix, the remixer should be placed first, as the
artist:
TN - Remixer - Original artist name - Track title (Remix
name).ending

Tracks in double or triple albums should be placed in the
same folder with consecutive track number unless the discs
has separate themes.

What are your rules?

Artist - Release - tracknumber - tracktitle(anyaddition)

specialty's like first or second cd is included in the
release title, not including vinyl side notes, if more cd's
on one release then seperated in different directory's, if
more vinyl sides then all to be put into one directory

the year rule is gay and dumb. if you insist, you should put
date in front of anything else.

myself, i've ceased caring. i just go with whatever.

i was just about to point that out.

putting the date at the very end is totally self-defeating
and useless. congs.

If you put date up front it makes alphabetical ordering
hard.

I'm more into the

Artist / Album / Track Name and number

and featurings and whatever are on the trackname, not
the fucking artist (so that you don't have a thousand dirs
for one album because it's a very collaborative album.

yes, so the natural solution is

%artist% - %year% - %album%

or

%artist%/%year% - %album%

or any number of variations

I don't actually think year, etc, are that important. If
people want that kind of information, they could look it up
for themselves. What's more annoying is with anime and other
series or movies where the groups that ripped them insist on
having their names in brackets before the name of the show..
put them AFTER!

don't care much for anime either :P

artist - release name - tn-leading zero -

I have found the longer file name format is not good for
portable players with tiny screens but it is fine for my
flacs.

Artist / year - release title / number - track
title.extension

if track is a remix, i see discogs and copy filename from
there, which usually results in

number - track title (remix title and info).extension

i.e "A07 - LFO - Nurture (Surgeon mix).mp3"

etc...

But I won't lose sleep if it isn't like that.

You're all wrong;

Genre\Label\Artist\Year\Track Number - Artist - Title.mp3

or

Genre\Label\Various Artists\Year\Track Number - Artist -
Title.mp3

Put details such as Cat No. in the comments. Section. Album
art is obviously embedded within the mp3. It's so simple!

track
