Aphex Twin Animation

Hello all!

Last year I created a musical animation based from the beat
of Aphex Twin - Girl/Boy Song. You can view the entire
animation at either of the links below.

Link 1
Low quality (Quicktime)

Link 2
Low quality (Flash)

The animation was screened in ResFest 2007, but I wanted to
see what true Aphex Twin fans think of it, so let me know
what you think.

Enjoy
-Mike T.

it comes off to me as a kind of a corporate advertisement. i
dont like that camera thing where it shakes and is supposed
to look 'intense'. i also think you should have spent more
time-matching events on screen to the musical events. the
music has dynamics and i think the video should have them
too,

i dont doubt youve seen gantz graf --- even though in
that video the dynamics/sounds dont match up all of the time
(for example there are alot abrupt, quick moves going on
when there aren't very many abrupt, quick noises) the thing
really captures the sounds and sort of 'dances' to them if
you want ti look at it that way. i think your video would be
more fitting for slower music with less drumming going
on...

this is all of course in my opinion -- its your art and what
i say doesnt matter. hope you got a lot of good feedback at
that festival, oh and welcome to XLTRONIC!

i thought the animation was brilliant. music was alright, i
would have gone for a less spastic track, 'pancake lizard'
perhaps. :)

pretty posh-lookin, but i have to say that girl/boy song
wasnt the best choice for tune though

This music would fit better to the animation though.

I like it.

You should look into Takagi Masakatsus works.. they're awesome,
both in music and in visuals!

That was very nice! Overall an interesting interpretation,
and it was quite high quality looking.

Thanks for all the comments. I created this animation last
year shortly before my 20th birthday. During that time I was
often pondering about life, death, meaning, and inspiration
so this piece was sort of a release of strong emotions I was
feeling.

BUT enough of that sappy stuff!

Some have asked why I chose such a fast and sporadic beat.
To answer I would have to say that although there was music
that would have seemed to fit better, it may have subtracted
from the storytelling of the work.

I did not want this animation to be an exact replication of
the beats from a song. I have seen those types of animations
and while they may have a visual appeal they are emotionally
dead.

it!

well, the video was interesting. the tune doesn't sync or
fit at all though, i think.

guess it shows you that drum and bass will eventually
destroy the cosmos.

how can your animation be so good and your website be so
shite at the same time?

ah yes, my website is pretty horrid. it is likely because i
am a college student who is studying visual effects and
animation but have no skills in web design. with no prior
experience, i made that website over a weekend some time
ago... i apologize if it's shitey-ness offends. :(

i suppose i should get on that asap...
