Today i started my computer as usual, but my 250gb harddisk was missing (in my computer) - so i restarted it and it appeared again. Now it says;
D:\ is not accesible. The file or directory is corrupted or unreadable?
wooooo, this is not so good. important stuff on that drive. im running windows xp sp2.
anyone got a clue how to fix this?

getdataback for ntfs or fat, whichever your drive is.
you'll need somewhere apart from that drive to save the data on.

1. check if it is plugged in properly 2. go into bios and check the settings 3. ask another geek what to do next

you should always properly stop/disconnect the usb harddrive before shutting down windows. Windows has the habit of fucking such things up when it feels like doing that.

You have definitely scared me with this thread, I too have an external harddrive which contains 250 GB as well. I really hope that will never happen to me!

That'd be a good idea though, at least you can be sure you're not ruining your hard disk.

hard drives fail. it's a fact of their design.
these days you're lucky to get 3 years out of a HD. especially externals.

Bad news, what can I do then... I've got nearly everything on it.
I thought that they fail if you kept them working a lot for example.

By the way, there is something even scarier than having a hard drive crashing. It's called death and you might not avoid it. Bad news, what can you do then...

3 months ago my seagate barracuda 80 gigs just died between one booting and another - the bootsector got corrupted and there is no chance to revive, restore, nor get any data out of it back.
call that a bummer !
