Symptoms of schizophrenia are divided into two groups:
positive and negative. Positive symptoms refer to traits
that are "added" to your personality and include a
combination of disordered thinking (cognitive impairment)
and psychotic symptoms (such as hallucinations). Negative
symptoms are capabilities or aspects of your personality
that are "lost" with schizophrenia (such as lack of emotion
or expression) and usually develop first.

Negative symptoms include:
Inability to experience pleasure. This is a common symptom
in schizophrenia and includes difficulty enjoying activities
that once brought pleasure, such as playing golf or visiting
with friends.
Lack of emotion. This can lead to few friendships or social
contacts. Showing little facial expression, having poor eye
contact, and slowed speech are characteristic.

Negative symptoms usually occur first and can be confused
with other health problems such as depression or substance
abuse. Substance abuse often occurs before the symptoms of
schizophrenia become apparent.

Symptoms of schizophrenia usually emerge during adolescence
or early adulthood and may appear suddenly or develop
gradually. When symptoms develop gradually, they may be
misdiagnosed with other conditions with similar symptoms,
such as bipolar disorder or substance abuse (which commonly
occurs with schizophrenia).

There are three phases of disease progression: prodromal,
active, and residual.

Prodromal phase
Negative symptoms (such as lack of emotion or motivation),
which may appear suddenly or slowly over time

The prodromal phase may last for days or months before the
active illness begins. Initially the symptoms may be
confused with depression or other anxiety disorders.
Stressful events such as emotional trauma or substance abuse
can trigger symptoms of schizophrenia in those who are at
risk for developing the disease.

Up to 30% of people with schizophrenia attempt suicide, and
between 4% and 10% will die by suicide.

Recovery rates vary between 29% and 83%, and about 20% to
30% of people with schizophrenia deteriorate rather than
recover from symptoms even with treatment.7

People with schizophrenia are likely to develop other social
and physical conditions (such as homelessness) or have
additional disorders (such as substance abuse and
depression).

I've got a different take on the whole thing. I was
diagnosed with depression, followed by acute psychosis,
followed by attention deficit disorder, followed by another
acute psychosis, followed by a panel of psychiatrists saying
either bipolar or schizophrenia, followed by post traumatic
stress disorder. Over time I kept having intermittent
experiences of pure ecstasy and bliss. And the worse and
worse things got the more and more I really wanted to find a
way to experience a constant state of deep, meaningful,
amazing, blissful inner experience. Little did I know and I
can hardly realize the true extent of what appears to have
been a mounting desire and ability to implement it. I think
these experiences have inadvertently allowed me to have a
life that is more enjoyable and engaging (to say the least)
than most people seem to have. As soon as it dawns on you
that these experiences are the result of the untamed raw
potential of the psyche and all it takes is a simple
decision to redirect it, the world is suddenly more amazing
than I could have ever imagined. Medication is for suckers.
There's a reason why the medicine they give you for this
shit makes you numb to everything, because it's acting on
the same mechanism that allows you to be hypersensitive to
the subtlest forms of beauty that life has to offer.

If this is mental disorder, then mental disorder is the
shit.

always asumed he was retarded.

i don't know if he's aware of his condition of how he sees
things diferently cud i don't really have much contact with
him.

It actually seems to me like you're describing just a normal
life.
