What's the point? Pullover was a good track in its time and DeOrbit is a good one. What is this adding to?

Hesiod, in his Theogony, ca. 700 BC, briefly alludes to "a shitty Gantz Graff" as being "the last thing mankind needs".

I can imagine the creative meeting as ideas were bandied about over what direction the video should take.
Studio Boss: Ok, you've all had a chance to listen to the work Speed-0's sent us. So what we're looking for is to create a visual accompaniment that exsts... evolves and enhnaces the music. Günther, any thoughts, what visual cues did the music set off for you?
Günter: I was thinking like, you know, that Autechre video...
Studio Boss: Good, we'll go with that. Sally, do the coffee run, there's a dear.

i thought when gantz_graf video came out, it kind of put an end to all the hyper-synced video works ... much like when drukqs came out it put an end to quality drill-type stuff.
it's like, ok ... the best has pretty much been done, please move on to new and fresh (read: personal) ideas ....

ok, but you can't use the art has to be innovative argument the other way around. it's great good art when it is innovative, it not bad art perse when it is done before
ganz graf was dumb too. it looked nice is all but it wasn't innovative. the two cute girls doing girly stuff on ae video, that was original
and probably done before

I'm forced to get "Mad" Mike's back and say, to you, that's not what he said. He said Gantz Graff "put an end" to that sort of video, as it was, and remains, the apogee of that "sort of thing", and the same as Drukqs, technically mindblowing, again the zenith of the genre, you don't want a version of Drukqs that's MORE drukqs, even more micro-programmed, like you don't want Gantz Graff played at twice the speed with REALLY fucked up sounds. Unless you're Cygnus and you need to calm down after 72 hours straight programming beats.
And his little plea at the end calling for more "personal" work was actually poetry.

well but who are you to judge those two were the apogee for their micro-genres. it is pretty convenient it happen to be the two most recognised artists in those very genres that made those two works. it is just not fair to all the other artists, you are killing creativity and beautiful-things-that-might-be right off
maybe you should take a knife and who's-afraid-of-red-yellow-and-blue ganz graf

Well I think Autechre reached the apogee (let's say that word three times in this thread) of Autechreishness with Gantz Graff, like Aphex was none-more Aphex with Drukqs, they both finished what they started, go from HAB to Drukqs, lovely, go from Tri Repetae to Confield, lovely. Don't mention someone who came along, heard this, thought,.. "oh... right" and did something similar and "better".
If you want to say there's other work out that there that is incredible, sure, obv¡ously. But is there anyone who's better at being Ae or AFX than the originals, no, I don't think so.

i agree and my point lacks real ground therefor but i would like to point out: ganz graf came after confield the ganz graf video looks cool but is in my most important opinion quit unevocative
if it wasn't for the videos we wouldn't be having this conversation
imo -the speedy j video doesn't really look like ganz graf -the ganz graf video isn't all that -Umfeld does sound too much like ganz graf -> comparing both the videos is not of much use to me

-the speedy-j video is more evocative to me though it looks cheaper than ganz graf
so immio the speedy-j video should be set to ganz graf
(im sorry im flooding this thread with my posts)

I know Gantz Graf came after fucking Confield, about 6 weeks later, what's that got to do with it? Gantz Graff sounds like Confield in the sense it sounds like Autechre at that period of time. The "speedy j video" closely resembles the Gantz Graff video in that it's abstract 3d computer graphics reacting spastically to the music. Unless you're a student of 3D that finds different narrative structures in the textures and modelling then to most of the world that could be half bothered (which is about no one) it looks and sounds like a cheap version of Gantz Graff which is unneccessary, unwanted, creatively redundant and if I might go so far, a turd.

You forget that I am right about everything. Oh there's 2D images cut into the Gantz Graff homage to make it look slightly less like a Gantz Graff rip off, well, thank fuck for the right side of the brain.
